Which Kate Bush song, that doesn't already have a video, would you have liked to see one for. This can be a favorite song or one that would lend itself to a cinematic experience Say which song and why and what you'd imagine the video to be (if you have a vision )

Ok, I'll start... ;D My first one is concept of The Ninth Wave (I knew it would be mentioned, so I thought I'd start there). Kate had described this side of the Hounds of Love as being very visual from the beginning. I would have loved if this had been given full treatment like TRS. But can you imagine the cost of the effects, but much could be done now with CGI if she would revisit the album! My vision alternates between stark reality and gaussian dream, much like the confusion of drowning. It would include only the most incredible cinematography, and provide photographic imagery of each song. She does not sing, only the music and voices heard in her head and for the viewer. The reality and illusion would be distiguished by a desaturation of color when we actually see Kate, and brilliant color for the dream through her eyes. Most of the video is from her point of view. And Dream of Sheep: Starts very suddenly with very realistic image of a woman in the water after a storm with waves and clouds around her. The fog is broken occasionally by the light of a far away lighthouse. The camera moves in slowly on the woman (Kate) as she drifts in an out of consciousness. The shot moves in closer and swirls around faster/ blurs into plunging into the water. Blurring into... Under Ice: All white and suddenly were close up on a frozen lake and all white around. This is a point of view shot and enough to make you dizzy. Camera glides quickly over the ice, panning and following a moving object. Cracks in the ice reveal parts of the image under the water, but as soon as a face is revealed, we spiral back into the haze... Waking the Witch: It would be easy here to actually show a woman being tried for witchcraft, but we have the vocals for that. I think this could be done well with effects as a small blackbird wounded, flailing in a large body of water, super imposed with images of religious relics and murders. We move towards the love offered by faith in the images, then it turns into horror. The wound we see the bird has was from man and the legs bound, the bird is to drown for its salvation. Many witches were tried this way, a stone bound to her legs, if she survivedm she was burned, but if she drown, she was innocent and the Lord forgave her sins. The struggle of the bird is shown intercut with images of Kate struggling to stay above water... Just starting out here, I'll post about the rest of my thoughts about the film and the other songs and other videos if this takes off. I've typed enough already...

Zan' do you dream in color? So do I. Just closing my eyes and concentrating can bring colorful patterns. The reason I ask is that these are exactly the kinds of things I've been envisioning, or at least hoping, Kate would do. Please continue describing your concept. I will formulate some new ones myself. I've done some in the past; but at the time I got limited response. But you've encouraged me to have another go at it. Stay tuned....

Wow. Those are amazing visions, Zan. I can just see "The Ninth Wave" now, but not in the sane way I'd ever imagined it. You've taken the ideas behind the song and played on parts of them that I hadn't given much thought. I love the idea about the blackbird taking the lead role in "Waking The Witch", representing everything that's going on in that song. I'd love to hear more of you and Al's ideas! I'll try myself, but I'm not really creative like that. I'm one of those people who finds it hard to think up preliminary ideas, but when I have an idea, I can take an idea far, if that makes sense. Anyway, I'll give it a go...

Zan' do you dream in color? I do! And in eerie reality too! I really disturb some people when I tell them my dreams! This comes from being a terribly visual person, and a huge interest in film. From the youngest age, I imagined songs and lyrics visually in a theatrical format. Maybe it was because I am from the MTV generation. I wish Kate had done more videos for her songs, but I can visit them mentally whenever I want. I also studied film, editing and storyboarding briefly in college, when I went through a phase of wanting to be an art director. Still wish I had done that sometimes! That's one of the things I enjoy most about film. It may sound like I studied a lot of subjects in college, but I support the acquistion of knowledge and try to study or read anything that interests me - from art to literature, to music, film, theater, dance, cooking, psychology, history, etc. I guess, a jack of all trades, master of none? I think I drew the line at sports though! ;D ;D I'll add more to the video concept when I get the chance. I'd love to hear some of your ideas, too. And Sto, I'm sure you have some incredible ideas too. Don't sell yourself short!

OK...Zan' your "Ninth Wave" video has set the bar high; maybe too high? But, let me indulge my imagination. My production would be a trio of videos; similar to "The Sensual World", except on DVD. Instead of interviews between each take, I would like to have the narrator, give the historical or inspirational references to each piece. It would begin with "Night Scented Stock" Playing to the opening credits and snippets of the upcoming videos. Without pause the scene fades to black and then to the sound of tree bugs (often mistaken for crickets) as the camera zooms from outdoors through an open window into a glowing room lit by oil lanterns. At that point "Houdini" is being played by Kate in a dimly lit corner of the room while the characters of the story are around the table for a seance. Ghostly images are seen in the background as Kate performs from a third person omnipotent point of view. The music is piano and cello only, with new vocals. Interlude with brief historical references. (narrator" John Carder Bush) Then "Night of the Swallow" is re-created using only old movie clips of "Casa Blanca" and "To Catch A Thief" with cut aways to Kate and her muscians performing as a shipboard band on moonlit ocean waters. Interlude with the historical facts on Irish folk music (Paddy Bush narrates) The Third song would be "Delius" It would use scenes from the movie about Fredrick Delius along with new footage from fields and ponds, Kate would narrate in two segments while the video is in progress about how this song came into being. An extended instrumental version of "Delius" would play to the closing credits. The credits should include all the muscians and a videography/discography of Kate Bush's work to date. Too long?

Sometimes I have to convince myself that I AM dreaming, because they are often so vivid and realistic. Whenever I hear something of interest, that I don't know, I look it up as soon as I can. Curiousity is the fuel of creativity and knowledge. Wisdom is the stewardship of those gifts. You can quote Me on that.

I just went back to this thread to comment on the fact that I had missed your challenge to suggest a track that had yet to have it's own video,(i.e. 'Delius'as it is a missing piece in my collection). I still like the concept I came up with. But in fairness to the spirit of your question; I would substitute the last selection with a montage of video clips of highligts from her past performances (live and recorded) set to a corresponding medley. Kate would briefly narrate between fade out and the beginning of each selection with commentary on meaning and inspirations.

;D digging ;D Al', I really enjoyed your fantasy video! That was exactly what I was looking for, regardless of whether it actually had a video or not. I only suggested one without, so we'd be more able to think outside of what Kate did. You have a great vision. So classy, romantic and mature. Very well conceived, with every last detail! And extremely educational as well, with the narration. I could very much see Kate doing something similar, if she'd dedicate the time. We have endless amounts of money, time and energy in our imagination. That's what makes this fun! Sto'... are you still thinking? I wanted to dig this up since we have been discussing some fantasy collaborations and future projects... and to get some more action here. Doesn't anyone else see Kate's music that visually, or maybe to afraid to share?

Thanks Zan! I never really thought about it, but there is no budget in our fantasies.

Do any of you imagine that the new project has videos? What would you like to see in the new project? Period or historical settings, dark and ethereal imagery, or more live performances. Do you think it will be a concept album, with a central theme and video's? Use your creativety here. The 'fantasy video' that 'Zan was asking us to create could be from existing or, as I'm asking. from new material. What?....sure you can!

Imagine a video.....now you've got me started (spend a lot of my time.......thinking about this!). Any way to start off with the ninth wave bit, sorry but I disagree with having a blackbird in the video, a bit too literal to the lyrics for my liking and the RSPB might be a bit narked...but yes witch trial, lots of black and bible thumping and Kate (hope she wouldn't mind) on a ducking stool "going down" greenish murky water with pond weed, bloke in a witch finder perceever outfit (blackadderish if you remember that one!) and lots of locals in wenchish and pesant garb (blury shot) a shouting and a baying! Move on to WYWM, dead easy white room, white furniture, lots of white floaty musliny type stuff hanging form the ceiling, bloke in a chair, old grandfather clock, and a ghostly Kate (almost experiment IVryish) moving around the house and singing. JOL, bit harder but all I see is lots of shots of Irelands coast and countryside from helicopter interspearse with shots of wrinkly old soothsayer type woman in a dingy corner of a smoky old bar where Kate n the chaps are having a serious looking jam. Don't know about the next bit but what do you think? from I put this moment here (some poor soul, witch finder bloke) on a rocky outcrop near a very violent sea narrating "Can't you see.....". HE I see, I'm afraid as quite literal with Kate driving in the dark with bloke (or kiddywink) asleep on the seat. Driving by the coast from JOL, lighthouse, ships, car radio doing the shipping forecast (how a radio would do this though I don't know, what would it's motivation be, would it have to really get into the part....anyway I digress). Zoom out to show the Earth and sun rising over it. TMF blast of colour (color!!) Kate rising from bed through the white floaty stuff from previously and joyously dancing through the same house again in bright lively colours being happy and greeting all those mentioned in the song. Blimy. Catch breath.... T'other one bin tinkin bout is You're the one. Start with Kate getting into a car and not looking particularly happy then jump to a working mans club, low stage glittery foil strip curtain, glitter ball, spot light, blokes on drums, organ and bass just out of focus on one side and the trio on the other side, audience not looking too interested gathered around in groups on small tables smoking and drinking and Kate just sings her heart out Thats all for now folks. Great imagery MM (get used to it cause that's what I'm callin' ya, madman ) I think we have another player here, Zan. I love the use of radio samples in your fantasy videos' Kate has used them before ("Breathing", "All We Ever Look For") as have many other artists (Joe Zawinul etc) It is an effective device. Also, the medieval rituals are also a great visual commentary. I'll post more, if some more of you will respond.

Thanks for sharing your imagination with us MM. I hope to read some more of your ideas. I'd like everyone to remember in order to be truly open here, we have to understand these are just fantasies and not to be critical or teasing... I don't want anyone to decide against posting their thoughts for fear of criticism. Everyone's imagination is amazing and I love incorporating your ideas into my own visions of her music! I know some of you have thought about this, please add some more videos from the other albums - outrageous, film-like, surreal, straight performance, anything!
