Snow Angel
Upon this trodden, weary road, Shimmering now, with fresh fallen snow, Sunrise gleams on this crust pristeen, My intrepid steps seem quite obscene.
Floating softly, the crystals gather, They make me wonder, what do I matter. Though cold gray skies loom so bleak, They yield way to each snowflake unique.
The bitter wind attacks my face, I cast my head down, fasten my pace, And though I'm filled with warmth inside, From this cold morning I can not hide.
In braving elemental charge, My heart so heavy, and so large, I walk a path ne'er trodden yet, And find the place we first met.
It brings me back to the start. Where your warmth unfroze my heart. And now as I walk to journey's end, All my love to you I send.

I thought our first effort was a huge success! Thanks to all of you who contributed words or thoughts. Let's keep it going! I'll start a new project. Stay tuned.

The next project is a short story. Everyone who invents a character may participate. It will be free form. Before action begins, you must name and describe your character loosely. When the story begins, reveal as much detail about the character that you are responding to early on (for clarity) however, everyone should stay in character until the climax.
You may contribute as much or as little as you wish in each post. Give any reference to surroundings that are a part of your direction.
My character is named James. He is 40 years old and owns a bar in Boston in the 1890's. He is gregarious, influential and a bit shady. Any takers?

My character's name is William McIntosh, a Scot-Irish immigrant whiskey importor. I smoke cigars, Love baseball, bareknuckle boxing, and loose women. I dress like a 'dandy' i.e. derby, vest and pocket watch. I'm a smart alec and willing to pick a fight. I love women with red hair and alabaster complexion.. Is that enough to qualify or get started?

My Chatacter is called Ronald Kohl. A German immigrant inventor and somewhat of a recluse. He loves music and dance but he is quite scruffy and his personal hygiene leaves a lot to be desired. Yet his ideas have a profound effect on the community.
Any good?

That sounds great. However, would you adjust the name a little? I'd rather it not draw attention to a real person like Einstein.. How do we rate our first effort? Vote one to ten. I'll give us an 8.65.

Right, my character's called Sheryl Heart. She's in her late twenties, although she tells everyone she's in her early twenties, of course. She's reasonably quiet and introverted, although when she's around a more extroverted person (especially a man) she tends to come out of her shell. Friends say that you're never really sure what she's thinking. She prides herself on her home-made dark chocolate cookies.

This project is picking up steam. Thanks for all the early response. This is an open casting call. I've chosen Boston in the late 1890's for several reasons. The Irish Immigrants in "New England", the social climate (which you must research!) and the industrial growth (The first US subway 1897) I'd like to stay true to the time period and context, however an anacranism for comedic device is possible; but I prefer consistiency. Post your preference for the style. Comedy, tragedy, drama etc. Or we'll just see where it goes.

Sorry Al, I chose the name because:
(a) Albert, Kate's son
(b) Brian Epstein, manager of the Beatles &
(c) Obviously Albert Einstein
I'll change it to: Ronald Kohl

To hell with the rules ;D You guys be who and what you want to be. This is just for fun anyway. We'll start the story next weekend. I'll do the opening and you guys jump in as you wish. The story will go wherever we take it. New characters may be added after we've begun by new players. They must describe their character though, in a seperate post. OK?....

I strongly suggest the rest of you sign up, or risk being written into the story at the whim of the co-writers. Of course you can only guess if we're refering to you or not. ;D J/K Sign up before Sat. the 9th.

;D Ok chaps, I'll run with this one, although I int much with the written word. Morris Box, so called because that is what they found him in on the door step of one of the local orphanages. After 14 years he ran away due to mistreatment at the hands of the overbearing city farther in charge of the institution. After a few weeks on the cold streets he discovers the library and teaches himself math (thats how you in America say it, isn't it!), and lands himself a job with a small accountancy firm. Frequenting the local bar run by James.... MM
