You guessed it from the title - this week, "Why Should I Love You?" ft. Prince, Lenny Henry, Kermit The Frog and Posh Spice is for the flush - as is "Eat The Music" ft. magos, bananas etc..... So, the new voting list is as follows: TEXTRubberband Girl And So Is Love Moments Of Pleasure The Song Of Solomon Lily Top Of The City You're The OneVote your two least faves off, specifying why you love it (why shoul you love it? Because it's Kate, durr...) Oh and BTW, if people feel particularly passionate about keeping certain songs in (Zan, I know you want ASIL to stay), I do accept bribes of Kate rarities...

I'm gonna have to vote off "Lily" and "Top of the City"--I know I keep going back and forth between that and ASIL, I like them equally. Lily is brilliant (as I've stated before I LOVE the singing bowls!) but I listen to the other tracks more. My 3 favorites are all already gone

I'm going with:
"Top of the City" Which grows on me more and more. But like I've said before, It's only 'cos I like the others better.
The same is true for my next choice:
You're the One

Lily - I dunno if I can explain this but I think it's too basic. I prefer the lyrics that have amazing meaning but where you have to really think and want to learn more, but this I just don't
You're The One - too depressing

Sheila, thank you for your constant posting in this topic - I just realised I hardly ever comment on your comments and that's not because I don't read them, but rather as you're usually one of the first to vote and once I get to the bottom of the page, I'm too forgetful! Anyway, thank you Lori, I know I'm a bit biased in regards to "Lily" (I adore the song!) but I really don't see the lyrics as being basic! The fire imagery is wonderful, protecting yourself with fire - I find that image so powerful! Maybe I just like fire imagery (Lily, Never Be Mind, The Sensual World vid)? My votes this week: Top Of The CityI love the little silences before each line at the beginning of the song. I always feel this song is a little forgotten, but it's great. Up on the angel's shoulders...just looking down on the city. It's great! I'm so torn for the next one...if I wanted to save "Lily", I'd tactically vote off "You're The One" but I love that song ALMOST as much as "Lily" so I just can't! My vote: Rubberband GirlA great more-than-a-pop song which should have charted better (maybe the video wasn't commercial enough). I love those rubberband noises she makes near the end, the aaa-eu-aaa-eu etc

Rubberband GirlI love those rubberband noises she makes near the end, the aaa-eu-aaa-eu etc You know I bever really made that connection. But you're right, those are good rubberband noises, BTW, do you think she 'wrote' those into the lyrics, or just improvised? 'Cos your spelling of them made me wonder? I also love "Lily" It is so unusual. The imagery as you said; but also the off-kilter beat and the percussion make it totally original. I'll help campaign for it's salvation.

Not a lot of time at the moment. I do like these songs a lot, I just like the others better.

Hi all! I haven't been contributing to "eating the music" for The Red Shoes...I've been on holidays to New Zealand and was far from a computer. Now I'm back and can (with great difficulty) nominate: Lily You're The One Lily... I do love it, especially the imagery with the Archangels ("Gabriel before me, Raphael behind me...), also the fire thing, very elemental. It is a very strengthening type of song but still, it is not up there with Kate's best. You're The One... because I confess I find it a bit whiny and depressing and it reminds me too much of that wretched feeling we have all experienced when a relationship ends. I guess I don't need reminding of that absolute despair. I like it when Kate's songs cheer me and inspire me and enlighten me (how selfish of me! ) She hits the nail on the head with this one but maybe a bit too accurately for me! PS: I wasn't around for the result from the Lionheart poll, it is great to catch up with the fallout from that one!

You know I bever really made that connection. But you're right, those are good rubberband noises, BTW, do you think she 'wrote' those into the lyrics, or just improvised? 'Cos your spelling of them made me wonder? You never caught that Al? Funny--it seemed obvious to me the first time I heard it. I'm sure she intended every sound---It's funny what we catch and what we don't in Kate's intricate songs--THERE IS SO MUCH TO CATCH! It took me years to understand many of her songs--it's so easy to miss stuff because they are so rich! The Kick Inside, Hammer Horror, Kashka from Baghdad, Watching you Without me, etc, all songs it took me years to hear new things in. Isn't Kate cool like that?!!! It keeps her music fresh. There's always new clever stuff to find in it!!!!!!
