Heads We're Dancing. I guess just simply 'cos I don't understand it. Rocket's Tail because I think the whole song you're waiting for it to really get into something, and it never actually does... sorry Kate

Rocket's Tail because I think the whole song you're waiting for it to really get into something, and it never actually does... sorry Kate Wow - "Rocket's Tail" is my favourite Kate Bush song and possibly my favourite song of all time In fact, I'm writing a story at the moment based on it! (Although I think copyright may limit my chances of using it somewhat! ) As for "Heads We're Dancing" - look it up on GaffaWeb's Kate Encyclopaedia, they give quite a good explanation!

My votes go to:
* Deeper Understanding - I find this boring. I know I should relate to it as I enjoy being on the computer but it just bores me!
* Walk Straight Down The Middle - Kate herself commented that she wasn't totally pleased with this effort and I think it is a bit superfluous. "This Woman's Work" should end the album!

Funny Sto, I'm totally with you on this one.
*Deeper Understanding* I like the concept and also the way Kate delivers it, yet there are better songs on the album.
*Walk Straight Down The Middle* The call towards the end, which Kate's mum thought was a bird in the garden!, emotes frustration at not being able to follow your true feelings, but having to follow a prescribed path because that is the most sensible course of action. Got to go though as again, there are superior songs.

I rode around yesterday listening to this CD. I like every track on the album, albeit not to the same degree. Since we can't have best, bester, bestest ; I'll go with levels 1, 2, and three (that's how I gauged all these songs) Only 2 did not make my cut for the second tier. They are: * Deeper Understanding (mainly 'cos it is uncharacteristically dated for a Kate Bush song. * Walk Straight Down the Middle. (for reasons of pace.)

My votes to be 86'ed are 1) The Fog---it just bores me 2) Walk Straight Down the Middle --- this song to me just seems a bit off for Kate. It has "filler" written all over it. Personally, I would end this now by just proclaiming "TWW" the winner! I'll agree that 'WSDTM' is not among my favorites, but, 'filler'?! 'The Fog' is much better to me though. The ethereal and dramatic ambiance created by the strings (especially the violin and cello) make it a superior effort in my opinion. 'TWW' as you indicate should probably be the winner. However 'The Sensual World' will give it a run.

If "WSDTM" wasn't added to the CD, I would be voting "The Fog" off. I think it drags the first half of the album down...but more about this when I DO vote it off...

Hey... I thought WE voted stuff off! Is this thing rigged. Seriously, how can you not love 'The Fog' it's beautiful?! Dammit, I've been found out! LOL, I think you misunderstood my "voting off" I find the atmosphere of "The Fog" to be too...sticky, too heavy. I also think it doesn't have the catchiness that other Kate songs have - I don't find myself going around singing it!

How can a song be heavy and ethereal to different listeners. She may have wanted a 'foggy' or heavy sound to fit the theme. To me it has so much atmosphere to get lost in. I don't think it's meant as a 'diddy' to sing or dance to.

I'm sorry Sto, but I think "The Fog" is among the best songs Kate has done. The fear of letting go is such a dramatic experience and I think Kate handles it with such elegance. Nigel Kennedy's violin describes the feeling of knowing you should, yet hold back for fear of being hurt. My opinion of course.

Well put MT. I think this song has more meaning though, if you've had children-especially a daughter. When I first heard this song, I either mis-interpreted the lyrics, or it may still have some dual meaning to me. A loving authority figure who suggests "just put your feet down child".."'cos you're all grown up now' conjures a fathererly warning. I first thought of a gangly little girl, unaware of propriety or sexual etiquitte. (I gleaned this mainly from tone, not content) Innocence (Blindness) and changes (maturity) can create a 'fog'. This song is far more complex than what the lyrics suggest. Of course I may be the only one to see this perspective.

Al, you did know the male voice on The Fog is Kate's Father? I know it is because I've had coffee with him.
