It is probably by an act of God that I even know who Kate Bush is. I lived in Somerset, Kentucky in the USA at the time, and I saw Wuthering Heights on MTV. It seemed strange at first, but uplifting in an otherworldy way. The lyrics talked about tortured love and haunting, but on the screen was a beautiful, and I mean BEEEEAUTIFUL raven-tressed siren, dancing...miming...something...in a flowing white dress. It was as if she were a new lifeforce. I bought TKI and LH from the local record store. (The store manager had never heard of her!) And that was it for a few years. In 1985 I started at Berea College. One day in the cafeteria I noticed a blonde girl looking at me. When I walked by their table (She was with a girlfriend) the blonde said "Excuse me." I said "Hi, can I help you?" She said, "Can you help us settle an argument we've been having?" I said sure and she asked "Do you know who Kate Bush is?" I smiled and said I had two of her albums. She smiled at her friend and said "Told ya." That night I went to a record store and bought HOL. When I heard "The Ninth Wave" I thought I'd gone to Heaven. The girl's name was Emily and I hope she's still doing OK out there somewhere. This may seem commonplace testimony to those of you in Great Britain, but for rural Kentucky this was quite serendipitous.

Good story. There are a few southerners on board here. (Tennessee, Mississippi, and Florida) I owe my introduction to Kate to Monty Python. If not for the popularity of that comedy troupe in the U.S. then Eric Idle would not have guest hosted SNL (Saturday Night Live) Thank God he got to chose his own musical guest, which of course was Kate Bush. I was hooked right on the spot....

I agree with Al, that is a great story. It's always interesting to hear how Americans get into Kate as she is a bit hard to stumble into.
I owe my stumbling to Nick Rhodes and/or Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran. They guest VJ'd on MTV and played "Sat In Your Lap".---instant die hard fan for life!!
