I was 19 at the time.
I was sitting on the couch watching VH1's 100 Greatest Women of Rock n' Roll.
I was originally watching the entire program just so I could catch Tori and Madonna.
Then, they started talking about Kate. I had never heard of her, but I recognized it when they played a small clip of RUTH.
After that, I didn't really think of her at all (sad to say). The time was just not right.
I have always been an avid Toriphile, and whenever I would read anything about Tori, I always found Kate's name brought up in the paragraph somewhere.
I had to discover her. My time had come.
So I immediatley purchased Hounds of Love on ebay. I was hooked as soon as I heard Hounds (the SONG).
To this day, Hounds of Love is my favorite song.
During the last few weeks, I have downloaded almost every song from all her albums except The Kick Inside. The only songs from that album that I currently have are WH and TMWTCIHE.
Her music taps into something deep inside me that even I cannot fully explain. My friends think I am crazy because I listen to her so much and they think she is crazy. But maybe........

Was that 100 greatest women special SIX YEARS AGO?? Where does the time go?? I remember Kate clocked in at about dead middle--I want to say #46. (yet that beach Crissy Hynde made the top ten, will someone please explain that to me? ) Anyway, welcome and glad you found your way to Kate and the forum eventually!

Well, here's VH1s top 100 women of rock & roll list. As expected, a large number of them aren't "of rock & roll" but yeah... that's to be expected. hrm... '99 huh? (the vh1 site takes a long time to load for me - plus they have annoying ads so I didn't look at any of the explanations for why the particular artists were placed where they were. I wonder if they explain what they mean by "greatest." Anyway... actually, I'm not sure it's something "we" want to post here... (I'll ignore the ones who aren't even rock & roll.) Here then are just a few highlights: 99 Talking Heads - Tina is a fabulous bassist and provides a nice bopping counterpoint to Ol' Twitchy David but no she does deserve to be on this list. 71 Tori Amos - oh c'mon; up it by at least 50. Personally I'd up it by about 70. 63 Christine McVie - I mean, c'mon! I like Christine McVie but there's no way she is "greater" than Tori - just to pick one. 46 Kate Bush - well, I'd have her at 1, 2, or 3. 23 The Mamas & The Papas - Mama Cass and that skinny one are so great - John Phillips has nothing to do with it! 22 Emmylou Harris - well ok, Emmylou is great! 15 Patti Smith - vh1 (as do most) like to pick surprising choices for top spot (here they chose Aretha Franklin) well I sure wish they would have chosen Patti who actually was, primarily, "of rock and roll." 7 Chrissie Hynde - Ok I wouldn't have placed her this high but I do like Chrissie. It's time for you stop all of your sobbing, Sheila! 1 Aretha Franklin lol It would have been a better choice to have given top spot to Carole King.

Heeey I was right at 46 for Kate! I have some memory...
"Stop your Sobbing" is a song that Ray Davies wrote that Chrissy Hynde covered, then got in a relationship (to the point where they had a kid together) and then broke his heart. In late 2001 she sided with Iraq. She's a relatively talented beeeeach.
