Back in 1989, I was watching MTV or VH-1 late one night and saw the video for "Love And Anger". At the time I was really digging woman singers, so not knowing who this woman was, I watched it to find out. By the end of the video, I was a fan. I fell in love with her physical beauty, her voice, and the music. The fact that she had escaped my noticing in spite of having been around for years and had David frikkin' Gilmour playing guitar in a video made me all the more interested in her. That next day I bought "The Sensual World" and "The Whole Story". (I've since gone on to purchase everything released that had her name on it)
I have always been a music "nut", and just when I least expected it, Kate had broadened my musical horizons.
My top three:
1 King Crimson 2 Kate Bush 3 Yes

Well, I *almost* discovered Kate way back in 1981 sometime. I want to say it was right around the time the film _Raiders of the Lost Ark_ came out, but don't hold me to that. I was in a record store, and the cover painting of Kate's 1980 album, _Never Forever_ caught my eye. Unfortunately, I had never heard of Kate before, and indeed I was very ignorant about music and records in general. And I was with someone, who I assumed was more knowledgable than I, and when he saw me holding Kate's album, he snapped "Put that back! That's no good!" And so I, too easily influenced in such matters, put it back. The next time Kate registered on my consciousness was sometime in the fall of 1985, when I caught a "video profile" of Kate on the USA Network's wonderful old "Night Flight" show. They showed several of Kate's videos, with snippets of an interview with her between the videos. I think it may have been timed to coincide with the U.S. release of her 1985 album, _Hounds of Love_. I know I went right out and bought the album, and basically wore it out. The following spring they showed the concert film, _Kate Bush: Live At the Hammersmith_ on "Night Flight." About two years after that I was able to obtain a VHS copy of that. That's basically it -- "the whole story," as they say. Expy
