I discovered Kate many moons ago, when attending a 'Feis Ceoil' (an Irish drama festival) in Dalkey, Co. Dublin.
I was in the junior drama group and was preparing for my big debut - where I would be reciting 'Be Kind and Tender to the Frog', a spiffing little poem - when I recall hearing this somehow so familiar yet wonderfully strange howling sound.
The older kids were indulging in some experimental dance, under the direction of Mrs Meredith, a poncho-wearing theatrical cliche in glittery shoes and who called everyone 'darling'. And they had chosen the sounds of Wuthering Heights to writhe across the stage to.
I will cut this long story short, as I must go watch Six Feet Under, but I will say that Kate's voice really hit me deep inside. It seemed so fascinating and haunting, and still does, that even at seven years of age, I fell under her unintended yet inescapable spell immediately.
I am writing a screenplay at present, about life in a stranger Dublin than most have seen, and may yet include this memory in it.
Anyway, I am off. But I hope to hear from others soon.
Cheers,
Tempelton aka Paul (Hertfordshire)

First, before commenting on your quotes below, I'd like to welcome you to the domain! I have an affinity, as most members here, with this sentiment. Just today ''This Woman's Work'' moved me just as it did the first time I heard it. Please check out our creative writing section ''Leave It Open'' We'd like to hear your input, as well as more about your ongoing project!

Thanks for the welcome!
I probably got a bit ahead of myself however with the 'I am writing a screenplay' bit though. It is true, I am attempting to write something and I am studying film at present but I really am only flailing around in the dark at present.
I guess I got a bit too carried away.
(Look at the irish catholic guilt on display here - damn, where is my typewriter!)

(Look at the irish catholic guilt on display here - damn, where is my typewriter!) Great to have a creator who is "getting it down" here. Welcome Tempelton. In all the philosophy I have encountered a similar theme becomes apparent: Humankind's biggest enemy is themselves. It is most likely you have tremendous talent awaiting expression kept in check by fear of an over inflated ego deposited by those who fear the self same. Be yourself Templeton, feel the guilt and do it anyway. In old age the greatest regret is not what was done, but what was not attempted. Be your best.
