I don't quite remember when I saw Kate for the first time, or where exactely. It must have been on the Dutch television show Top Pop, the only music show on the tube at that time (I'm talking way back when, must have been '78 or '79). I don't remember if it was a "live" i.e. lip synch performance or if it was the white dress video, all I remember is I was blown away by this waif-like, witch-like, stunningly weird, gorgeous, out-there woman (hey, I was 12 or so, everyone age 18 and over was old) who totally changed my perception of what music was all about. I remember being thunderstruck, going to the record store and listening to The Kick Inside, standing at the counter with the headphones on for days on end until the store owner kicked me out. I saved my allowance for weeks until I could finally buy a copy of my own, and then listened to that until my parents kicked me out (to play outside in the sun that is ;D) I started transcribing lyrics and trying to make sense of them, no "I love you, do you love me too" for our Kate, but big words and complex concepts, my disctonary got quite a workout, I can tell you and my English improved in leaps and bounds, much to the delight of my teachers. Never did quite figure out what KT was on about half the time though, and I like it that way. Anyway, I've been a Kate-head ever since, never recovered, don't want to. Just felt like sharing.

That's a wonderful discovery story, and thanks for sharing it. It's amazing that she even helped you learn English! We all seem to have very intertesting ways we "discovered" Kate Bush, and I think she'd prefer it that way, rather than any ordinary artist! I hope you've read about some of our striking discoveries as well. Your input is already much appreciated here, and I hope I'm speaking for everyone in welcoming to continue posting!
