Discovering Kate Bush was one of the defining moments of my life. I remember it as if it happened yesterday. It was Easter Sunday 1978. I was nearly 15 and until then had been your standard Aussie teenager of the 1970s, hooked on teenybopper groups and the Top 40 chart. I was watching the old Australian video show "Countdown" and suddenly this amazing vision and music from another realm just flooded into my little suburban living room. Kate, in her red dress, out on the moors, arms flailing about, dancing wildly, eyes huge and passionate. I was totally blown away by "Wuthering Heights". I actually went out and borrowed the novel the following day from my local library because I was so desperate to understand what Kate was on about. I received The Kick Inside for my 15th birthday a little after this and spent the next few months in my room, listening almost obsessively. That was just the beginning of a long journey. I bought every new release thereafter on the day it came out & sadly I've been mocked and vilified by ignorant philistines who just don't understand. Through all the years, through marriage and the birth of 3 sons, through highs & lows, Kate has been the one constant and I'm so glad to at last have an outlet for this weird obsession (this site)! Please, please, tell me it's OK for me to go on like this?

Welcome home Colleen. You are among friends. As I've said before, Kate made such an impression on me that a day doesn't go by that I don't think about her. My journey in life has been altered by her art and beauty. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and please continue to do so.

Oooh I believe we've just recruited our first Aussie, hehe. By 'Countdown', do you mean the programme with the clock or am I on the total wrong lines? We've been through 'Countdown' (with the clock) before in the anagrams section somewhere I think.
I have that version of 'Wuthering Heights' on video and I love it but unfortunately it's quite low quality. I discovered her with her more well known 'Wuthering Heights' video.

Lori. I think there is at least one other 'Aussie' member. I'm not sure if any of them have posted yet.

Welcome again, Colleen! (See your "Who's to know the power behind our moves?" topic for my proper welcome ) I think it's disgusting how people mock others for their tastes in music. Music is a very personal part of our lives. We're blessed with being unique individuals, but are often criticised for being different. I think one thing Kate definitely shows us all is that being different, or "weird" as people who don't understand may call it, is really okay and should be encouraged. We'd love your input on these boards and feel free to "go on" anytime you like - the rest of us certianly don't worry about it! ;D

Hi Colleen! As Altruest said, welcome home. Here we are all obsessed with Kate, in the healthiest possible sense. She has enriched our lives beyond measure. Unfortunately for her, as her father once put it, she doesn't possess a crucible large enough to accept all the love and adoration that comes her way so we have to content ourselves with loving and admiring her on a board like this. Incidently, it is my opinion that this forum is the best there is! You get massive encouragement here. Hope to see you posting.

You're welcome here with open arms. All that's needed is a love for: all things Kate Bush, individuality (let the weirdness in ), and wonderful music and sharing your stories with friends from all over the world. This is the "warmest" room you'll find!

Thanks for the great welcome. I will certainly continue to post. I find it amazing that there are so many like-minded people out there. In my everyday life, I know no true KB fans. I was thrilled to find that people in other countries had read & responded to my post. Thanks guys! By the way, in response to Lori's question, "Countdown" is a now-defunct Australian music programme that ran from about 1974 to 1988. It was probably a bit like Top of the Pops in the UK and is famous here for pioneering the use of music videos. Because Australia is so far from anywhere else, we as a nation were reliant on music videos (or "film clips" as we called them in the 70s). The programme also featured many visiting overseas stars and I have videotape of Kate's visit to "Countdown" in late 1978, where she performed Hammer Horror live and was interviewed re: the Lionheart album. She was wearing a black velvet pantsuit and looked wonderful. I also have video of the "red dress" Wuthering Heights (both of these are occasionally replayed on Australian TV). Hope this clears it up for you.

A footnote to this thread for me would be that if not for seeing Kate Bush on live televsion, my philosophical perspective may not have gone the way it has. The artist 'Tricky' was recently quoted as refering to the music of Kate Bush as being 'almost religious' There is an exhaltation of my spirit created by her passionately delivered lyrics. It set the course for my trip.

Sorry for not posting anything. Yes I am still alive! I'm afraid the hassle of actually going to earn a living each day cuts into my "Kate Time". I am touched that you notice I'm not around... I had a wonderful Kate moment last week actually. I never bought the boxed set "This Woman's Work" and had always regretted not having the disc with all the B-sides. Well, last week there it was on eBay and I managed to buy that particular CD of B-sides for only $14 Australian. When it arrived, it was like having a whole new album! Magic! Most of these songs I only have on vinyl and have not been able to play for many years.
