As a newcomer to all things Internet Kate Bush-wise, I am intrigued as to why this forum is much less busy and/or used than the Homeground forum? What's the history involved here? Are most people registered here now using the other forum?
Just curious like, especially as I am still waiting for approval on t'other one after too long!

Hi Mark. This is a Forum that has almost certainly seen it's best days. At it's height, it was a community of several key individuals that welcomed other devotees of Kate Bush's work. They stayed, or sometimes didn't stay, but generally all were treated as fairly as the human condition would allow. I was one of those that stayed. Our 4 figure membership rosta flatters to deceive - the vast majority of the faces behind those names just looked in once or twice. Then they moved on. As for any comparison to Homeground, well we both have KB in common, and I don't believe that we were in any way actively competitive sites. But if there is - was - a difference, I think that it was about that community thing. HG always struck me as being more about efficiency. More brusque. They were certainly better informed over there. There were human 'dramas' and social interactions here, as well as good quality debate and speculation (some of which was absolutely superb). We also welcomed input that was perhaps inspired by Kate Bush, rather than being exclusively about her. I would never dream of bad-mouthing HG. I respect it as the definitive KB fan comment, news, analysis site, and members from here have also been part of that forum. But personally I've never contributed - I always preferred the weather here. And the people were more generous. And of course, if there has to be another reason for decline, it was probably down to the retreat of Kate herself. You can't keep talking when there's nothing to talk about. I don't know how - or even if - HG managed to deal with that fundamental limitation. For me, this Forum is now something of an article of faith. It has in some way become part and parcel of my admiration for Kate and her music. It shouldn't have, but it has. I may not be around for a week/month or two. I certainly no longer contribute to, or even read it, everyday. But I do read every post. I guess that until the site administrator finally pulls the plug, I can't see me abandoning it. I've laughed here, nearly wept here, had my beliefs and intellect stretched almost to their limits here. I've spent hundreds of hours here. I'm probably just sentimental about the place, or nostalgic. I hope that answers your question. Needless to say, these comments reflect only my own opinion. Other members of this Forum may see things slightly differently. Do you really need 'approval' to be a part of the HG forum? Another reason then, for my supporting this community. We have always been inclusive rather than exclusive..

I know I'm not the only one, but this forum is a home away from home for me. I've never been to Homeground personally, but Adey is right - we have more of the human aspect here, we're not just a fan site. I used to post a large volume of poetry here, inspired by everything that I could get my hands on. I also shared a whole lot of music that charted the influences in my life (and has done now for something like four years).

It's funny you should say that Mark, because I decided to become a member here while waiting to be "allowed" into HG - long story short - I'm still here. Not there, here.
It might not be as busy here, but the people are nicer.

Thanks for the insight folks, I salute your loyalty Adey, and you know what, I will be sticking around here too... let's hope Kate's recent upsurge in more-regular recorded output will be mirrored with an increase in discussion on here then. In retrospect the title of this thread shouldn't really have 'versus' in it should it? There is enough room for both TSWOKB and HG on t'interweb... sure beats the brain-rotting nonsense that half fills Facebook!

I believe that HG does, to some extent, have the 'ear' of Kate's organisation. And that as a consequence, they are the 'preferred' internet based fan presence.
That has always saddened me a little, but I'm pragmatic enough to realise that KB or KB plc is unable to patronise all the web based fan sites (even unofficially).
C'est la vie..
