Breaking the Circle (again)

Forum members may recall my musical fantasy project, "Breaking the Circle".

My collaborator and I decided to re-visit this recently, with a view to identifying potential professional collaborators for future development. To that end, we recently put together a cine style trailer, to give people a flavour of this big work.

Breaking the Circle was originally a theatrical piece, although it had a lot of video projection to help tell a complex story. We've re-used some of this abstract video in the trailer, along with edited musical moments, Some of my vocal performances are taken from live recordings we made of the original show, so they are definitely warts and all!

I'll (we'll) be performing BTC again later this year in a few Midlands Art centres. The format will be different this time though. The emphasis will be on performing the whole 12 song cycle, but without the acting. There will be video projection support again, but the story will be told by the songs, the video and a live narrator, linking the music together to make a cohesive show. Can't you tell that I'm basically just an old prog rocker touring his concept album?

After those shows, and if we don't find anyone to move the work into some sort of professional development, then it will go back into the cupboard. I'm getting no younger and there are other projects out there I need to get done. I don't want BTC to become our magnificent obsession, even though I think my collaborator would be happy for it to be so!

unless of course we decide to do it on ice next year..
