This sentence caught my eye: "Since [Bush's] last album, British music has unearthed a rich seam of pretenders to Bush's throne, including Dido, Goldfrapp, KT Tunstall and Joss Stone. They had all better look to their laurels: the queen of them all is back to claim her crown." The only name there worthy of being considered alongside Kate is KT Tunstall - she's got that raw songwriting talent, a brilliant voice, and a totally distinct, unique style. Musicians like Kate & KT don't come along every day. In fact KT is the ONLY mainstream female musician to grab my attention since Kate! So, rock on Kate and KT! The Official KT Tunstall Board
Kate "KT" Tunstall: While her first name is Kate, she chose to go by KT as her first name, saying "[Kate] just makes me think of a buxom lass baking bread for her man working in the fields. I have no problem with that, but it's just not really how I pictured being a rock star." Also, Tunstall spells her first name KT (as opposed to Katie) to differentiate herself from fellow singer Katie Melua. (wiki)But was the change to KT Tunstall really motivated by an identification with KT Bush and those hidden KT signs? ...

I could imagine that. Didn't she mention Kate once when accepting an award, or something like that? KT Tunstall is indeed very talented, and I think she has an amazing voice.

^ Yes, that's right... "And the nominations for Best British Female Solo Artist are: Charlotte Church, KaTe Bush, Katie Melua, KT Tunstall, and Natasha Bedingfield. And the winner is..."
KT Tunstall is another award winner who was unheard of a year before the ceremony. Tunstall received three BRIT Award 2006 nominations. Nominations included Best British Live Act, British Breakthrough Act, and British Female Solo Artist. At the ceremony on February 15, 2006, Tunstall performed "Suddenly I See" and won the award for Best British Female Solo Artist, remarking that she wished to share it with fellow nominee KaTe Bush, who was nominated after releasing her first album in twelve years (wiki).
KT ecstatic at Brit Award success: Singer KT Tunstall has spoken of her joy at winning the Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist 2006. The former Edinburgh busker became the first Scottish woman to win the prestigious music title since Annie Lennox 10 years ago. The 30-year-old, who was the headline act at Edinburgh's most recent Hogmanay party, said she had enjoyed an "extraordinary year"... Speaking after the Brits show at Earl's Court in London, Tunstall, from St Andrews, said: "I am absolutely over the moon. It feels so good. I feel, after an extraordinary year, I feel I'm up there with the boys doing my thing and rocking out as much as I can, I'm loving it. I'm so glad I won." The singer, who was relatively unknown this time last year, got her big break when she was called up as a stand-in for rapper Nas on BBC Two show Later With Jools Holland. "Well, I'm delighted to be British and I'm even happier to be female so to win this Brit is pretty cool," she said as she accepted her award, adding that she wanted to share it with fellow nominee KaTe Bush. Anyone who writes most of an album like her first album, The Kick Inside, at 15 years old has got to be pretty special." Talking to Scottish-born KT Tunstall, you get the feeling that Eye to the Telescope is merely the beginning. At 31, the "older" member of the new wave of U.K. female musicians melds the diy vibe of the U.S. jam-band scene with folk rock and free-spirited experimentation. Perhaps that's why she beat out the one-and-only Kate Bush for Best British Female Solo Artist at the 2006 Brit Awards. "I don't really consider it beating Kate Bush," says Tunstall. "It was an honour to be nominated in a category with her. "As a female songwriter who is over 20 -- imagine it -- with a lower voice than most, I take a lot of inspiration from her taking a break to have a family and then coming back with an absolutely stunning album."
