'Quite an eclectic group. If you don't know all of them, please at least try to find a sample of their music on line before you vote.

Eclectic is right! Those of us stuck in the blandness of Southern Cal had to exit Pandora; minimize Kate and go surfin'. I'm impressed that Yves Montand made the list. I would never vote for him as the most unique voice--he was a so-so musical comedy performer, although "On A Clear Day" was amusing and I know that he did a lot more in his native tongue, some of which I've actually heard--but his inclusion does show some perspective. Kudos. Lisa Gerrard is unknown; did hear some snippets and it seemed that the music (which I liked) was more original than the voice, so I had to vote her out. Anthony Hagarty is unknown here too, and I'm not real impressed, but I could tell from the sites I visited that lots of folks really, really like him. Maybe I need to hear more. Take care all.

Voted for Michael Stipe. Good and a moderately imaginative band. But Unique? I hardly think so..What is perhaps unique, is REM's guitar player's consideration of what is acceptable behaviour on public transport

REM was (is?) a relatively accomplished band. Stipe, I will agree, has not distinguished himself as unique, by the criteria we laid out. At least he is not in the same league as at least 25 or 30 others on our lists.

Kudos. Perspective is what makes the world go 'round. Dead Can Dance have been among my favorites for quite awhile. Lisa Gerrard is only a part of the unique dimension to their sound. He must be an acquired taste. Kevin thinks as highly of him as his pitch.

Joan Baez. A great singer in her time, just nothing too remarkable about her voice, unless you count her strong vibrato. But then Gracie Slick did that sometimes, too.
Love Joanie, but not very unique, imho.
