Vote - and then tell why you voted the way you did. Also comment on any remaining artist from this list and why they should move on in the competition.

Macy has great pipes but just doesn't have the body of work. I know that isn't technically what we're voting on, but everyone else on that list has a huge library and also have a very unique sound. And you don't become Bing overnight.

this was harder than the other two, many of these will fall out anyways in the rounds to come

While Macy Gray has an unusual voice, I don't think it sounds naturally unique. It seems as though as she grew up she never stopped speaking in 'baby talk' She mostly irritates me. She got my vote.

this was harder than the other two, many of these will fall out anyways in the rounds to come I respectfully disagree with this. This seems to be one of the strongest fields considering the criteria. Although the music may not be appealing to all; these artists at least represent good material presented with unique vocals. Macy Gray is the one that stands out to me as being not in the same league here. But the only other arguments (IMHO) are whether Johnny Cash is just a 'baritone' singing lead (which I believe he is much more.) Or that Bing Crosby is just a 'crooner' - which again I do not believe to be true.

gah... it's Emmylou who isn't my choice. Emmy Lou is the 'type O' collaborator. She has the 'unique' abilty to blend beautifully with so many different voices and styles. She is sought after for more duets than almost anyone else I can think of. 'Classy and attractive through all the years as well. 'Not typical of a country singer (IMO)

Emmylou has that deceptive quality of being able to sing to the song; she doesn't always try to be the distinctive singer but the best voice for that moment. She can blend. Still, she would be the 2nd I'd vote off, but Macy remains my first.

I have only one album in which Emmylou appears and that is Dylan's Desire album. This one alone, and despite Emmylou only participating by lending the backing vocals, is enough for me to vote for her (or in the present format - to not vote for her) for quite some time. Does anyone here have any Emmylou albums? If so, which do you most highly recommended?

I voted off Bing.
Great crooner in his time - hardly unique..
(ducks down to avoid a hail of objects/abuse etc)

O.K. This thread is locked now. Macy Gray is out and the others move on. Bing carries -2 and Tom Waits and Johnny Cash carry -1 history into future rounds. See next poll and vote.
