8. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones This album was a lot better than I had expected it to be...finally it seems that the YYY's shed their facade and did the album they've wanted to do from the beginning. Most of the stuff mentioned here I don't care for, except for Bjork whom I always seem to enjoy. (and of course Kate) I might have bothered mentioning some of Kat Bjelland's stuff but that's certainly an acquired taste.

Hello! Do you see much difference between Fever to Tell and Show Your Bones? I hear the two as being quite similar - perhaps they aren't. I've never heard of her - I am assuming her is correct... yeah if you would, mention something.

I've never heard of her - I am assuming her is correct... yeah if you would, mention something. Kat Bjelland is most famously known for being in an 80's band with Courtney Love called "Sugar Babydoll". But they didn't get along well in a band, so Kat went on to underground "success" with the band Babes in Toyland (who hit their commercial peak in the mid-90's), but since the new millenium she's put out albums with a band called Katastrophy Wife ("Amusia" being their best album so far)...her music isn't for the faint of heart. But what most fans like about her is her unique vocal ability...she sounds like a little girl one second and the next like an unearthly banshee without any unnatural help or sounding fake.

Spanking Machine is my favorite of the Babes albums, however most fans disagree with me...but if you liked it, you'll enjoy Katastrophy Wife just as much or more.

I listened to it this afternoon, and, I did like it. This surprised me because I didn't recall liking it previously - maybe all it needed was for a kind word to be directed toward it. It's not among my preferred styles of music, but for a change of pace - yea. I intend to at least hear a sample of Katastrophy Wife.

i listened to a lot of new music since i first posted my list, so i think i need to update it Me too! I couldn't get into Arcade Fire, but I'll give them another try. Scarlet's Walk is excellent though I doubt it'll be in my newest top 10, which I will compile right now: 1. Regina Spektor - Soviet Kitsch 2. Nellie McKay - Get Away From Me 3. Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros - Streetcore 4. Joanna Newsom - The Milk-Eyed Mender 5. Mirah - C'mon Miracle 6. Leonard Cohen - Ten New Songs 7. Metric - Live It Out 8. Antony and the Johnsons - I Am A Bird Now 9. Tilly and the Wall - Bottoms of Barrels 10. Nina Nastasia - The Blackened Air ps: I also like the Cave & the Bad Seeds album. hrm... I'll say this however - I think I've listened to Scarlet's Walk more than I have the majority of albums on my list.

I actually don't really like the first Joanna Newsom album, i don't like her singing and voice on that record and i find the songs themselves quite weak compared to Ys (actually almost everything out there will sound weak if you'll listen to it after Ys). however, i hope she won't release another album in the same vein like Ys, it will be quite tiring to listen to another album of really long songs

I do quite like Ys, and I could have listed that rather than Mender... both very good albums - neither of them being weak. ;)And yeah, about changing things up - if Ys is a valid indicator then the next album will be quite different since Ys is certainly far apart from Mender. Forgetfulness. If I was to compile another "Best Of" list I would most certainly include Bright Eyes!

Re: Bright Eyes I'm not sure which one - I like all that I've heard... I guess my favorite is Lifted.
No, I haven't heard the Patrick Wolf album - I'll check it out sometime. I've had a feeling I'd really like him at some point - perhaps that time has arrived!

'The Magic Position' is incredible. I liked his first two albums but his new one is awesome. I'm seeing him in London in April. I can't wait. I hope he brings the harpsichord
