Ok, more lists.
We've done the great artists and great songs, but this thread is to correct an obvious omission. Apologies to any members who weren't around in the 70s..
These are the albums that get my vote:
1) Abbey Road - The Beatles 2) Crime of the Century - Supertramp 3) Ziggy Stardust (and The Spiders From Mars) - David Bowie 4) Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John 5) Led Zeppelin IV - Led Zeppelin 6) Machine Head - Deep Purple 7) Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd 8) Aja - Steeley Dan 9) Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield 10) The Kick Inside - Kate Bush
no particular order..

Note: I'm not saying these are the BEST albums of the 70s, just the Most Essential ones (eg, the ones that answer the question "What IS the 70s").
(In no particular order)
1. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie 2. Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack 3. Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road - Elton John 4. Never Mind the Bollocks - The Sex Pistols 5. Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd 6. Tapestry - Carol King 7. A Night At the Opera - Queen 8. Young Americans - Bowie 9. Whichever Led Zepplin album has Stairway to Heaven on it 10. Whichever Lynyrd Skyrnd album has Freebird on it
Note: I would not be caught dead with half those albums.
To clean my palate, here is now the 10 best albums of the 70s:
(again, in no particular order)
1. Diamond Dogs - David Bowie 2. The Kick Inside - Kate Bush 3. Here Come The Warm Jets - Eno 4. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie 5. Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road - Elton John 6. Duty Now for the Future - Devo 7. A Night At the Opera - Queen 8. Never Mind the Bollocks - The Sex Pistols 9. The Wall - Pink Floyd 10. This Year's Model - Elvis Costello

This album is misunderstood. You must know some background, AND appreciate jazz.

jaco pastorious is also featured on joni's hejira and don juan reckless daughter. mingus is underrated but you obviousley can't compare a tribute album like mingus to an original material album like hejira

mingus is underrated but you obviously can't compare a tribute album like mingus to an original material album like hejira Obviously I did. ;D I don't disagree that Hejira is more critically acclaimed and palatable. But, a tribute album does just that - honor great talent. An essential exposure to several talents in 'Mingus' is why I included it on this list. Besides being a fan of bass and percussion.
