As much as we've discussed the talents and music of Ms McKennitt; I am surprised there has not been a thread dedicated to her. If you are unfamilar with her work please watch this video - Windows Media large file - Cable or WM small file - dial-upThere is also a Quicktime connection along with many other audio/video features at her website here: Quinlan RoadPlease view and comment.

Loreena Mckennitt!!! She is great, isn't she? I'm a fan, I own "Elemental", "To drive the cold winter away", "Parellel dreams", "The Visit", "The Mask and Mirror" & "The Book of secrets". I seem to be missing two that I never knew existed . She has marked a part of my life, as I listened to her within some of my spiritual growth. Her use of Celtic/Druidic Pantheon reference, and her heavily stressing the elements, nature, and her vast knowledge of the ancient ones, would suggest her to be a Celtic Wiccan. Nevertheless, she is listened to by both Pagans & Wiccans alike, especially on celestial events, sabbats & esbats. I recomend all of her albums, especially "The Mask & Mirror". It is one of my favorite albums of all time. I will also refer to a song from 'The book of secrets", its called "Marco Polo". One might mistaken it to be Greek. The music is so beautiful, as she is. Her beauty seems to grow as time passes. Al, your taste in music, is that of the highest levels. This thread was a must!

Loreena Mckennitt!!! She is great, isn't she? A prodigious talent. Such a powerfully deft voice with crystal clarity. Yes , I have them all. There is a new one coming out too. Her use of Shakespeare, Keats and other poets as lyrics mixed with her own vast traveling experience and research, make her music a wonderful journey. Celtic and Moorish influences take you back in time. Plus the production values on her albums accentuate her voice. The acoustics always suit the arrangement - sometimes a cappella or often in Cathedrals. Heathens as well. Thanks for the input. The Greek sound is a Moorish influence that she says had a profound influence on European culture, architecture and music. ''Santiago'' and ''Mask and Mirror'' have this sound among others. Lines are open...

Funny: I was made aware of her existance by a couple of Clannad fans. I bought 'The Visit' right away. I feel that she has more in common with Clannad than mrs. Bush. Having said that, the link with mrs. Bush is being tightened with her (mrs. Bushs' that is) rendition of Mna Na N'Heirran on Eist (or Eist Aris). Wonderfull song btw. my reaction when I heard it for the first time (in Clifden, Ireland in my rental car after having bought the cd in a tourist office -of all places- ):
