That's so sad, Xanadu!
Robert Palmer was such a great artist! I don't know anything about him as a private man but he seemed to be such a nice person too!
Love, Susanne

It is a grim day indeed. Has anyone else noticed the frequency of celebrity deaths in the past weeks? Johnny Cash (who was preceeded in death by his wife only months earlier) Gregory Peck, Katherine Hepburn, John Ritter, Bob Hope, and now Robert Palmer. These were some of the most gifted people in show business. It is a humbling reminder of the fragility of life. Robert was only 54, John Ritter was still young by today's life expectancy rates, and Johnny Cash may have died from a broken heart. It really makes me sad that there are here no more.

Yes, it's sad, so many wonderful actors and musicians died this year. Remember Gregory Hines, Barry White and Maurice Gibb ... Love, Susanne

Barry White died!!!!!! ?!! I didn't know about that one! I have had Robert Palmer's "Looking for Clues" stuck in my head since I've heard... I love that song. I saw him live in 1987. I've had nothing but death in my life in the 2000's. Where is the life? We'll miss you Robert! And Robert, if you can be omnipotent now and read this--please forgive Rod Stewart for ruining "Some Guys Have All the Luck"--he knows not what he do...(actually he probably does, and I dislike him for that. Some Guys Have all the Luck may be Rod's worst bastardization of a song, but it wasn't the only song he destroyed. Sorry if I offend any Rod Stewart fans out there, but I HATE HIM)--for those of you who never heard Robert Palmer's version of Some Guys Have All the Luck you don't know what you're missing... He really was a special artist...

We'll miss you Robert! He really was a special artist... Thanks for the wonderful posts about Robert Palmer and the others we've lost. I have also felt such huge loss this year, and I feel that some of you can share that and acknowledge it. I am having a hard time processing his passing (as well as John Ritter's). I have been a fan of Palmer's far longer than Kate Bush. And in many ways he seems more real to me... I listen to him probably more often and own his entire catalog (even Vinegar Joe!) I have seen him live several times, have been closer than arms length and have been spoken to in concert. My husband is an even bigger fan, so the loss is terrible. All our love goes out to his other fans and family. This may seem unusual, but I feel such a loss of something with the deaths this year in entertainment. Perhaps it is because I don't feel there is much new talent to take their place. I find that discussing them here allows us to share our love and loss of these talented artists. If Kate Bush ever would, by chance, read any of this... I would hope she will recognize how brief the opportunity is to share your gift. Many of these artists would have been grateful to have had more time to share their talents with their fans, and their lives have been cut short. If she still has interest in her music and the joy it brings, life and time are too precious to waste. I hope whatever she has chosen, she feels it was the most fulfilling.
