I love the Cyndi Lauper songs that I've heard but I haven't heard many. True Colours, Time After Time and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun are the only one's I've heard. Is anyone familiar with her music and know what the best album would be to start off?

"Why is that girl SO UNUSUAL?!" - Cyndi talking about critics in about 1984! I'll bite here since I was just listening to her this morning! ;D I really like the greatest hits "Twelve Deadly Sins" since it's a good way to start off. The some of the tracks are: 2 versions of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Money Changes Everything, Time After Time, She-Bop (but if you were offended by the discussion about Egypt, wait until I tell you what this one's about! ) , All Through The Night, True Colors, and I Drove All Night (great song!). But as for albums to look for, I'd suggest "She's So Unusual" with most of her hits or "True Colors" for a start. The greatest hits also includes 3 new songs. I think you'll like her! ;D

Zan we had a previous discussion on 'SheBop'. The Brits I don't think picked up on her 'not being master of her domain' (reference 'Seinfeld's masturbation wagering episode) but we settled it by calling it about 'wanking' I'll look up the posts if you'd like. I do however, especially like 'Time after Time'

Probably, but it's a great song! ;D You have to love her for her outrageousness! I don't know if I'm a fan, I have "most" of her music, but then I have "most" of a lot of people's music! Again, it's that wealth of useless knowledge thing. Especially anything 80's or film! But, I do really like her!

Don't have any used CD stores near you where you could get a good deal on it? That's how I got mine. (Actually my neighbor runs a used CD and LP shop, so I've got quite a set-up ) Good luck though, those Ebay snipers can be brutal!

I'll have to say she is growing on me. 'True Colors' and 'All Through The Night" are good. 'Time After Time' will always be my favorite of her's. I am going to add it to last week's 'Moments of Pleasure ' thread on strong bass lines, which it surely has.

I just got her greatest hits for my birthday and I can't stop listening to "I Drove all Night"! I always loved the boldness of She Bop since I was in high school, and True Colors is phenomenal!

"I drove All Night" is, I agree a great song. Cyndi also does BV on 'Tricky's "Blowback" album. There are also contributions from Alanis Morrisette, Flea, Anthony Keadis, John Fruscianti, Hawkman and Amber Sunshower. It's a very eclectic CD. Tricky has stated that Kate Bush should be more valued than 'The Beatles' in influence. He says that her music has 'no mother or father' I agree.
