It was 40 years ago today that the Beatles made their first appearance in America. That event spawned a revolution in American music. The ground was broken and the seeds of punk, prog rock and power bands were planted. The Beatles had taken, much like Elvis Presley, the R & B of southern American blacks and reprogrammed it for a generation of youth ready for change. The uptight and repressive culture of our parents was from then on archaic. The challenges to racism, conservatism and sexual repression were about to explode. Young affluent white kids were not afraid to explore the horizons of a different tommorow. I guess the Beatles were at least partly responsible for my affinity with Bristish culture. Although, they were not my favorite of the British bands. But still a salute to the fab four on behalf of all America.

Ouch! How did I miss this?
Thanks AT. I adore The Beatles (but mainly anything after Revolver) and know very little about their history.
Just released in UK shops (and US too I hope), DVD - The Beatles 1st US tour. Haven't got it yet, but will. 82 mins - plus extras - concert footage, Ed Sullivan plus other interviews, documentary and news footage.
