Since I think most of us have never seen Kate live let's use this to share our most exciting live/concert experiences! I'll wait and see if anyone's interested before I ramble on, there are so many to name... and one just last night, Simply Red! Mick Hucknell was on fire! ;D

'Zan, can these be taped or televised? or are you refering to being in the audience? It's been a while since I've been to a concert where the artist has world-wide appeal. But there are a lot of local clubs here that play Blues, rock, country (of course) and even Celtic music. I sometimes watch Austin City limits. It features a variety of live concert performances. Stevie Ray Vaughn (The late, great blues artist and Hendrix fan) and David Byrne (of Talking Heads fame) were two that come to mind, that blew me away.

Hey Al, my best friend's fiance is a cameraman for Austin City Limits! (7 degrees of Altruest and Sheila ...) You have not gotten your mind properly blown by a concert until you have seen Tom Waits live...I saw him twice--the first time was halloween 1988 at the Chicago Theatre---I haven't been the same since... if you are not familiar with the venue--it is the most classic theatre in Chicago---red carpets, statues, chandeliers, velvet curtians, the complete pomp and circumstance deal...so Tom Waits is sitting at his piano and says, "Nice place you got here. You should see it when it is filled with water. Aaugh, you had to be here earlier..." I JUST ABOUT PEED I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD! I guess you had to be there My birthday present from my parents this year was Fleetwood Mac tix---they came to Chicago a week after my bday--and I was blown away. I can't believe the energy Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood still have...it was sad to see Stevie Nicks in orthopedic shoes but Buckingham's energy ASTOUNDED ME!!!!

I suppose I was going for actual live performances in the audience, but anything can do. Just be sure you make the distinction in the post. I just wanted us to share these experiences since I don't think we can discuss ever seeing Kate live. But there's always the video... Also, add the performance you most regret missing. Besides "Tour of Life" of course. I have so many to name. Be as specific as possible. The Simply Red show was at a small club in the city and I was a few yards from him. Women jumped on stage to dance and the crowd rushed the stage! The band was quite large and he was very energetic. Haven't felt like that since Robert Palmer held us in the "palm" of his hand, chest to the stage, at the HOB in Chicago back in 1999! (Pun intended!) But, Bryan Ferry last year at the House of Blues (HOB) in Anaheim was very close and nothing every compares to a few rows back at Peter Gabriel in December 2002 for "Growing Up!" I waited 10 years for that show and was not disappointed! Most of the best experiences were at the HOB in Chicago. Been there Sheila? (By the way, if you make dinner reservations and eat there, they'll let you in early for the best spot in the house, at least they used to! Give it a shot!) I have been to nearly every venue there a few times. Sheila, we could probably just name our favorite shows listed by venue. Maybe we were even at the same show once... Just a few wonderful Chicago HOB experiences: Robert Palmer with Power Station (we watched the closed rehearsal from the foundation room, so a very personal show!) , then Duran Duran opening night in August 1999 (where Simon LeBon spoke to me in the dark before the lights came up and I nearly was trampled), Joe Cocker bringing the house down, Nancy Wilson of Heart accoustic opening to "Crazy On You" kicked it out right in front of me, and another Robert Palmer performance before I moved to CA. So many to mention... I saw many shows at the Chicago Theater, and it's one of my faves. It's wonderful to read you describing it like that. I thought it was just magical! Some of my best experience there were "Cats" and Olivia Newton-John, where she opened with "Xanadu" in a shimmering silver costume and programmed beams of light - she was so overwhelmed that she nearly cried from all the gifts! Another wonderful venue is The Auditorium Theater, but no concerts acts there, just plays and such. I can name so many others, but I'll wait for some others to catch up. I did not see Fleetwood Mac on the last tour, but orthopedic shoes? You must be joking! She was still in her boots in 1998 for the "Enchanted" Tour? I guess were all getting a little older. It's great to share these experiences... keep them coming!

I've only ever seen Dave Davies (of the Kinks) at the House of Blues, both in Chicago and New Orleans (I met him in N.O.!!!! ;D) but I do like the HOB. Saw Laurie Anderson at the Chicago Theater too, I've never been to the Auditorium but I used to park in their lot in college (I went to Columbia) Remember the Avalon? Uh, oh--I'm showing my age...I saw Robert Palmer at Poplar Creek (again, showing my age )in, uh, I'm gonna guess 1987. Maybe 86. Senior moment. Oh, wait, I lied! I saw The Misfits at the House of Blues! Got backstage and talked to Jerry Only for almost 2 hours!!! (he's friends with my boss ;D) HOW COULD I FORGET THAT???!! Okay, now I'm worried. That's 4 times showing my age in one post.

Did you see Stevie in Tinley Park? If so, then we were at that show together...(late May 98) Wow! That's the show with Boz Scaggs! I was down in front during "Edge of Seventeen" where she shakes hands! That tour was from the box set and what a set list! And, I nearly went to Columbia for film! I was accepted, but got a scholarship elsewhere. And lastly, I used to live about 15 minutes from Poplar Creek and saw a bunch of shows. Actually my high school class graduated there, so I have a lot of memories. So sad that it was torn down. It certainly made concerts convenient for me. I wonder what other coincidences we have... and it took this forum to discover it!

Well, since we're discussing performances we've attended here is a list of my most memorable (God I'm old!): * D1ck* Clark's Caravan of Stars Featuring The Zombies, The Shirelles, and The Shangra-las. I named one of my kids after a performer. * Led Zepplin @ Municipal Auditorium * Weather Report @ The War Memorial Auditorium. Best live band that ever played!! * Steely Dan Live In America tour @ Starwood Ampi-theatre * The Kinks in Memphis The Pyramid others: Van Morrison, Santana, George Duke, Beach Boys, Little Feat, George Clinton, Prong, Sneaker Pimps, Lenny Kravitz (Cincinatti) among others. Believe it or not we (me and some college friends) cancelled at the last minute on going to Woodstock. Pick one for discussion if you'd like (except The Kinks, sorry Sheila, I was wasted and don't remember a thing ). I also went to see a live taping of The Johnny Cash Show at the Ryman Auditorium, when Kenny Rogers was in a pyschedic rock band. Can anyone name this group from his pre-country fame? * you can't even spell Mr Clark's first name on this friggin board without changing D1ck to thingy!

I've seen many great concerts replayed there. I would love to see Tom Waits live. I listen to his music on occasion. His performance in "Bram Stroker's Dracula" as 'Renfield' was memorable, and quite indicitive of his quirkiness. I remember when all the old theaters (Loews, Paramount, The Knickerbocker etc) were as lush and ornate as you describe the Chicago Theatre. They just don't build them like that anymore. And what a shame for all you younger people who may never experience the marvelously barogue and gaudy ambience of one of these historical theatres.

Aw, Al, that sucks about Woodstock There are some concerts I regret missing but that really sucks. If you were wasted at the Kinks show then you saw it the way God intended! ;D God? Well, Ray Davies anyway. I used to think Ray Davies WAS God! Wait, did I say this already? I scrolled past my prior posts... I regret not seeing David Bowie with Blue Man Group and Moby just this year. I just hope DB tours again.

I would, being a percussionist, love to see BMG. I have their latest CD. But seeing the performance would be so much better.

My Dad did the guitarist of Blue Man Group's garage door, and he offered my dad a small block of tickets (the $65.00 ones) and my Dad said no. He didn't think he knew anyone who would be interested. My sis and me just about lynched mobbed him with torches!!!!!!
