Interesting mix Grimm. BTW welcome aboard. It's good to see someone else that can appreciate Loreena McKennitt. Also the ecclectic mix (Van Halen ?! - not that there is anything wrong with that ;D ) reminds me of the variety of tastes that my favorites reflect. I'll share more later. Thanks for posting. Hope to hear more from you.

Thanx Al, Good to be among fellow Kate fans. About my ecclectic mix: I'm also a closet ABBA fan; or was until now. Oh well. There's just always something I can identify with in just about every type of music.

Hi Grimm, yes nice to meet you.
I notice Yes appear in your choices. Interesting that you have chosen Drama, which is much derided by many Yes purists.. (because of the Buggles connection I suppose). I enjoy that album very much too. I wasn't prepared for the audience hostility faced by then members Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes, when they appeared on the Drama tour later that year. No wonder they didn't stick around..
And of course we all know that Geoff played the memorable fairlight trumpet section on Sat in Your Lap, the only time he has appeared on a Kate Bush recording.
Thumbs up also for Grace Under Pressure - a fave for me but a 'minor' Rush album to many fans; too much keyboard perhaps..

Hey Adey, another post in needing an update from the Pepto-pink on the first page! ;D I know I have yet to log in here with my choices ( ) but I will when I get a chance. I just wanted to comment on the interesting and varied choices that Grimm made. I think you'll feel pretty comfortable around here. And more specifically, I was surprised to see Heart - Desire Walks On and In Walks the Night!!! That's one of my favorite Heart albums also, and I love that song. But for me, I would have to pick Little Queen (Sylvan Song/Dream of the Archer) or Brigade (The Night), maybe even Mistral Wind. ;D And I can't say that I am very familiar with McKennitt's catalog yet, but I like that you chose a holiday song! I think it's absolutely beautiful.

Hey Adey, I love this band. Don't know much about them, but I have a few songs and I like their sound. Funny, I'm in the US and had never heard of Be Bop Deluxe until I was watching the movie "The Rutles" (spoof on the Beatles) and noticed "Be Bop Deluxe" spray-painted as graffiti on a brick building in the background of a scene. That being such a Monty Python-ish movie and such a silly name, I thought they must be a real band, and a silly one judging by the name. Man, was I wrong. And "Pirates" by ELP: totally with you on the Wow-factor. Hi, Xanadu, IMHO Ann Wilson is the most under-appreciated singer alive today. It is absurd how fans turned their backs on her because she had a little weight problem. Again, IMHO, those were the years she really came into her own. "In Walks The Night" is sung perfectly, without studio magic; it showcases her impecable sense of timming, and "feel" for how a song should be sung. Not to mention the range of notes she can sing, and sing them STRONG. Al Truest (Mod), Saw on Loreena McKennitt's website www.quinlanroad.com/ that a new album could be in the works! You might be the only one that noticed this, and I thank you for not nailing me on it, but I got a LM album title wrong on my list: "Between The Shadows" should have been "The Visit". (editing that post next) And Van Halen? Hey, what can I say except I'm a sucker for a well-writen, well produced, well performed song and that album is full of them. See ya 'round.

As you may or may not know, BBD were led by an amazing singer/guitar player called Bill Nelson. I saw him live about 2 weeks ago, doing his first tour for over 20yrs. He was fantastic, doing a lot of solo material and about 8/9 Be Bop Deluxe numbers with his new band "The Lost Satellites" It was a great night and his guitar playing was mind boggling. Had a long chat with him afterwards - he was charming & gracious. Look up his website (a general search for "rooms with brittle views" will find it), or use the link I've posted elsewhere on the Forum. You'll find it on the "Your Personal Playlist" thread on this part of the Board. You'll a lso find a download site for a new Bill Nelson track which features some fantastic guitar work.

I saw the Ann & Nancy tour completely accoustic a few years ago and I was about 4 feet from her at the HOB. It was really impressive. I then saw them last summer as Heart. What do you think on the new album? Do you like Alison Moyet? You might if you like Ann.

Thanks for digging up this old thread Mat, and posting your choices. Obviously I haven't heard the songs or the performer, (though the name is familiar) but I like that you picked a 'homegrown' (Israeli) artist. This thread needs to reflect the international nature of the Board members.
I have to confess that the only Israeli artist I'm familiar with is the transexual who won the Eurovision Song Contest a few years back.. Dinah International.. something like that? No doubt I've overlooked someone completely obvious..

it's dana international, but she's clearly not a good example to an israeli international artist, i recommend you to check Noa a great artist who is quite familiar in europe.

Give me a few weeks to browse through my CD collection (luckily I only got about 300), followed by a few weeks of listening to them, followed by weeks of lying awake every night thinking of how to rank and order them followed... anyway...
Kate will be there, as will the Smashing Pumpkins with "Siamese dreams" and "Melon collie and the infinate sadness" as will Tori Amos, and Alice in Chains, Talk Talk, The Smiths, Queen, Metallica, and many many others...
