This has been a long wait, but I don't want to let my enthusiasm dim my objectivity.
To me, KOTM is a fine - but not exceptional - song. Not really a typical single, but I'm sure it will do well given Kate's fan base. There's certainly nothing wrong with it, and it does grow on you (as I've found most of Kate's work does), but it's not up there with Kate's better efforts. Still, given her years of "inactivity" it's a strong effort. It makes me look forward to the rest of the album.
The video - on the other hand - s#*ks. I wish I could say otherwise.

Thanks for the contribution.
An objective eye is never a bad thing, and I've often wondered if we sometimes come across here as too deferential. I hope that we've been able to cope with a less than positive view in the past and that we continue to do so..
However, and with that being said, I can't agree with every comment that you've made. I believe that after 12 years, KoTM is almost miraculously good, even on the first hearing. The only KB single I enjoyed more straight out of the box, was RUTH and I can't imagine that ever changing.
The video is where we seriously differ. Many of her previous efforts now look dated to me and at times almost embarrassingly naive - but then again, I look back armed with the advantage of seeing beyond the polarisation of typical fan worship and after 12 years development of the form. But this video, now that's a different matter..
Stunning, simply put. A totally controlled piece of work that has none of the near hysteria of a lot of the previous videos. Thoughtful & more than a great guide to getting one's head around the concepts of KoTM. It joins the videos for Cloudbusting & RUTH in my personal top 3.
Thanks Fan Since the 80s. Consider coming on board here and help us to keep it real (as they say..) No-one will agree with you all the time, but your voice will be heard and it's message considered.
Regards to you..
