As I've been here for some while now threatening as I do from time to time to release my book I thought it only fair to give you some parts of it to give you the flavour. Let me know what you think:
MARCH 1989
Time Communications
I'd been with the company only a month but already it was clear these people were going somewhere fast. Clive, the Managing Director had vision and was communicating it very effectively. There was a buzz the like of which I'd never before experienced and as we were at the beginning of the mobile (cell) phone revolution I knew it to be the right time to be around.
An appointment had been made for me with the Managing Director and the Financial Director of a small car sales business with a potential of maybe five phone sales, hardly top money. It was however part of the strategy for getting the "Big Boys" and I was willing to play my part.
Duncan, my sales team partner and I had earlier that morning been discussing the technique of creating a positive outcome in your mind then acting it out on the sales call. On the way I played this out in my mind seeing myself shaking hands with the customer the deal already made.
I did take it a stage further though. Being the dreamer I've always been I imagined they had a recording studio underneath their showroom. I'd wanted to record the songs I'd written since being inspired by my love for Kate Bush but I mean, how likely is it that being in the car sales business they'd have a recording studio?
The call went as I imagined and after completing the necessary paperwork we talked about what we did with our spare time. When I mentioned my desire to find an appropriate recording studio the MD quickly volunteered the studio beneath the showroom! I'd made it up and here it turned out to be true!
We descended into the darkness of the facility where I was introduced to the engineer. An appointment was made the following weekend to set out the initial recording.
The dream was beginning to take shape filling me with a mixture of excitement and helplessness. The feeling of not being in control began to shout at me and fear was creeping up at a rapid pace...
