Another busy signal. Nicci has tried all night long to reach Gillian once more. Maybe, thinking to herself, she pushed a bit too far last night. After all, Gillian had let her finally met one on one in her penthouse apartment last night. She regretted the physical treats she had made to Gilly, but she'd underestimated her resolve. The ensuing battle of wits left Nicci on the short end of her extortion bid. Although, Gillian knew that Nicci held all the cards, she felt compelled to fight the lies and threats. The wine that they had shared and the veiled attempt to persuade through cunning just did not work. Violence may be the only alternative. Nicci let her know that in no uncertain terms. There is plenty of time to execute the plan, Nicci had assured herself.

Gillian, was the head of one of the most prestigious design firms in all of Manhattan. She was the future heiress to the Sotheby fortune. Known in New York's social circles as one of the most dramatic and elusive women on the party circuit; her money was soon to rival that of the Hilton's. Nicci had set her sites on her for a long term relationship and ultimately a huge payoff.

They had met casually at a fundraiser for the arts council. Nicci put on her best face - lying about her wealth and connections. It had been quite uneventful for Gillian. It was only later that she'd be re-introduced by Victoria Ruben, her financial advisor. Nicci had promised to support several of Gillian's pet projects. These projects gave meaning to Gillian's world of mostly material and social pursuits. Nicci knew this all too well. To work out the details, Victoria allowed Nicci had to be included in a few subsequent events and functions. Little did Victoria, and especially Gilly, know that Nicci was trouble from the start.

* I wanted to put Nicci at the scene before the 'maybe not so apparent suicide'. I can edit this post to include more descriptive imagery if the bones are o.k. What do you think? Also I like the flashback idea that could maybe switch to first person dialogue the night of the death. I'd enjoy writng in character. Also, what if Nicci is Gilly's unknown and unconfirmed half-sister from an illigitimate and denied affair with Gillian's father?

Thanks, you gave me a good place to start. I agree that dialogue should take place, but I don't see a narrator as being necessary - just flashbacks at key points.

Nicci remembered the first time she had laid eyes on Gillian Nixon. It was at a fashion show, Nicci was watching and Gilly had modeled some of her own work.

"Gillian Nixon, modelling her own Nouveux Elegance range..."

Nicci was mesmerised by her, she was perfect. She was a designer, a model, and a multimillionare all rolled into one.

'Nicoletta Scott' was a police officer, P.C. Debbie McLennan in fact. But deep down inside, Debbie she thought she could do more with her skills. She wanted more. More than what she had now; the money,the relationship, the controversy, the fame. Nicoletta Scott, the bright, young design student with a wealthy background and highly respected past record was cunningly created.

Of course, it wasn't difficult for P.C. McLennan to pass herself off as someone else. At work, as Debbie, she was a straight, average woman with a simple mind. At play, as Nicoletta, she was an extravagant, loud, vocatious bisexual stunner. The 'chicken fillets' and long blonde wig, complete with heavy eye make up disguised her beyond all belief. Her mouse brown cropped hair was hidden, and Debbie had never used make up in her life. Nicci, however, didn't leave the house without it.

Gillian Nixon was the ideal woman. Sweet little Gilly. The sort who would shudder at the thought of hurting someone, who was genuinely nice to everyone she met - and most importantly, had just split with her long term boyfriend.

Nicci had read snippets in a magazine reading - 'I really need your support, and i'm just not getting that right now.I need help, reassurance. Last week you showed exactly why I feel insecure; you just don’t have the patience to hear me out before jumping down my throat and storming out. I'm tired of wondering every night whether you would be coming back.'

This woman was easy to get to. Nicci wasn't really in it for Gilly - she wanted Gillys money, and was prepared to go to any length to get it.

Debbie's stint as the politically correct vice squad officer made her transformation into Nicci a full 180. Often working as a decoy for prostituition stings, Debbie could use her manipulative powers to attract and arrest countless gulls. Gradually the danger and intrigue of working the vice beat began to feed her latent hunger for the dark side. She was not without company here. Many of the male vice-cops were dirty to the core. Be it skimming drug money or taking a cut of seized property and drugs, their activities made the line between right and wrong even more blurred for her. She never tipped her hand though. She had bigger fish to fry than the crumbs these guys were procurring.

Debbie's disgust with misogyny that was rampant in the force, as well as the corruption there, pushed her closer to the edge. Equally, the degenerate Johns she encountered regularly, and their sick fantasies, began to turn her away from men in general. Maintaining a healthy relationship to this point in her life had been a challenge anyway. Her volitale emotional, and particularly her finanicial needs, were just not being met.

After work Debbie was keyed up. For the first time she had taken seized property from the evidence room - cocaine. It was easy. Her efficiency apartment seemed like a cage now - she had to break free. She popped the cork on a chilled bottle of Moet that she had been saving. Her preference of course would be Dom, but since she was buying, it would have to do. She drew a hot bath and relaxed her tired muscles with a good soak. Her calves were killing her from those god-damn 5" spikes. The bubbly at arms length and several well place votives had given her a sense of oppulence. She wanted more.

A warm flush engulfed her as she stood to exit the bath. As she toweled herself dry in front of her full length mirror she admired her well cut nude form. Damn, she thought to herself, I've got all the tools I need - as she gave her breasts a quick upward shove. Before dressing, she laid out a provocative ensemble. A black strapless silk dress with 4" heels would fit the bill. Five inch spikes would just be too much like work she smiled to herself. She slipped the clingy outfit over her fragrantly smooth skin. There was no panty or bra line to worry about. Before the shoes and jewelry went on though, she cut two short mounds of powder on her mirror topped vanity. A quick blast into each nostril and the game was afoot. No longer Debbie - her alterego Nicci, she's sure, will take her to the next level
