And thank you for sharing! There are a few musicians here. Al Truest plays drums I believe, Rocket's Tail is a pianist and I'm a singer/composer/classical guitarist/synthesist/arranger & other bits and bobs. (Amateur status, professional aspirations). I look forward to hearing some of your stuff when I've the time to do it justice (I'm busy at the theatre for the next week). If you want to, check out my website: www.corbentheatre.comIt's there to support and promote my 1st musical fantasy, and it has examples of my songwriting and performances.

Just out of interest, are you familiar with the music of UK Yorkshireman, Bill Nelson ?
He's probably best known for the 1970's group Be Bop Deluxe, but since the 80s he's been an amazingly prolific, if largely uncelebrated ambient/instrumental musician. He is often without record company support and trades extensively over the internet, where you will find much info about him. For what it's worth, I think he's a genius. He's worked with Eno, the Yellow Magic Orchestra, Sylvian/Karn etc.

Very nice Galley.
I just downloaded "Opieuw" and heard it through a few times. Very economical, you left space and thats so important with ambient music. I like (what I assume) was the monotone note treated with a slow cycling LFO providing sample & hold filter modulation (?) - sounds like it any way. The nicely reverbed female vocal sample pitched at 3 tones certainly put me in mind of Badalamenti, and I'm guessing that the wierdness is ring mod treated filtered noise.
What equipment do you use? Is this stuff hardware or some virtual software synths going on - I couldn't begin to guess.
Well done anyway - I will listen to some more, though your material is outside of my usual area of expertise!

adey, thanks for downloading "opnieuw". you are correct. those sounds are ran through a sample & hold filter. its basicly my wife's keyboard plugged into an overdrive pedal & then through the sample hold filter. its one chord. then there are also distorted gtr drones i played & 2 acid loops. the bell "ding" & the "saucer bell". the vocals are my wife w/ reverb. she did about 6 different tracks. "opnieuw" is actually a "part 2". the track thats before it (and wrtiien as part 1) is titled "the ghost of silent regret". which will open the c.d. as far as gear. i borrowed an old analog e-mu e-max. the rest of the gear was mine. IE: LOTS of pedals(i have a sickness. wanting ever pedal i can afford. or in most cases can't afford), fender strat, gibson thunderbird(my precious), bass POD, quadraverb, some other old analog rack stuff (delay, flanger, etc) & a couple plug ins. i do want to get into some of the virtual snyths. just a matter of coming up w/ the money. again, thank you for taking the time to download & listen to my music. herb

Nice results from analogue pedals Galley.
I share a similar sickness! Over about 10 years, my long time collaborator & I have assembled a well equipped project studio in his detached garage, in which we can rehearse and record. It's based around a pentium 2 PC with Echo Gina full duplex sound card, running Cubase 5 (never felt the need to upgrade to SX or Nuendo), with a dedicated Steinberg Cubase 8x8 midi interface.
Hardware is too much to list, but includes Korg Prophecy/N5/MS2000/X5DR/M1, Moog Source/Prodigy, EMU Proteus 2000/Vintage Keys, Yamaha Wx5&VL7 (wind synth)/DX7, Alesis DM5 (drums) etc etc.
I like soft synths too, we have a Pro51, G Force mellotron simulator, Steinberg Wizoo drums/808 simulator etc.
Guitars are Ibanez Satriani, Strat, Charvel super Strats, Rodriguez & Chappel classicals, Squire/Casio midi gtr, Overwater Bass & some cheap acoustics (one thing we really need - a good acoustic guitar)
Effects by Lexicon, TLC, Roland & Aphex. Condenser microphones by AKG, Audio Technica and various dynamics by Senheiser/Shure/ElectroVoice/Peavey.
Hardware mixing is done on Mackie VLZ pro, Spirit & Behringer desks.
Plug ins include T Racks mastering suite, Wavelab 4, Antares Auto Tune and Mic Modeller.
We monitor on Tannoy Reveal nearfield passives with Yamaha power amp.
Good luck with your studio - before you know where you are it'll overrun your house, believe me!
