digging
i am at the end of the line digging digging my future
yet each time i dig the sand rolls in again
how silly of me to have spent all this time digging nothing and yet if you did not dig... there at the shore line the water forever coming again and again if you did not feel the grit of sand your hands in motion the call of the gulls over head and yet if you did not at least try this moment this motion would you have seen the sun setting against those clouds? If you did not dig, would you have found the smooth shell seen the moon rising feel the breeze on your skin?

Thank you Adena and anoldfriend I always read the poems on this thread, and even if I don't respond I thank you all for posting. Adena, the image of 'the strangling tree' is very arresting. Sometimes, a situation, a relationship, an occupation, or even one's own mind can feel like a strangling tree! And anoldfriend, you are so right to point out the smooth shells, the oceanic breeze, the moonshine and the brilliant sunsets. These really are jewels worth all the digging.

Thanks for the compliments Tannis. I would like to be writing more, but my muse is hibernating right now.

Music: Loreena McKennitt - All Souls Night (hehehe!)
Tossed so harsh on the rolling sea Loved so much by the raging river Kissed so sweet by the trembling sun Held so long by the careful giver
Trees and songs and circles of candles Tears and thoughts of things ahead Laughs and snips of life well lived In song of night to wake the dead
Ask for nowt but get so much Gift of night, of shadowed tears Dance on hate and live on memories Remember all those times of fear
Light and love and sands of time Talk and fear of things ahead The sea which washes clean the tainted In song of night to wake the dead

This phenomenon so strange The blindness to the fault Of prodigy And intelligence
Beyond belief
What do you really know About your favourite pop star Or a face on TV? What do we know about anyone? Really?

Two steps forward One step back This dying life Too short to last There is no meaning There is no thought There is no hate There is no more Feelings gone Emotions dead At the end of the earth Which takes no prisoners
There is only love left

I see so much more hope in your writing Adena. Good work... Thank you. I left love out because no matter which emotions may rule the moment, it is love, as well as reason, that rules the day.
