You guys may have come across this 'problem' before.
In the middle of the night, I noticed a post from a guest in Cathy's Window. It was from (I assume) a french girl
named Severine. Actually she had posted twice; once in English, once in French. I thought it would be nice to respond to her in her own language - a personal touch to make her feel welcome and maybe come on board. I am not a fluent french speaker, but I can get by. So I responded in French with some approppriate sentiments.
Another member saw the french language posts, and contacted me to advise me of the restriction on foreign languages in the Proboards TOS. To say I was furious was an understatement. I did however (and with great regret) modify my post. I made it clear in the modified post what I had done and apologised to Severine for this bigotted and inexplicable policy. I also made the painful decision not to collude with this and resolved not to post on the Board again.
Obviously I have slept on this decision, and will not now abandon the Board just on a point of principle. I will however be contacting Proboards (without reference to this Board) making my feelings about this nasty and insidious rule known to them. Obviously I am not naive enough to expect that it will make a difference, but it is the only way in which I can square my continued use of the Board with my conscience. Before I do this I will need to examine the Proboards TOS very carefully and the same member that contacted me has kindly posted a link to the necessary site.
Perhaps an administrator or moderator might wish to post the 'highlights' of the TOS on the Board, as I'm sure that nobody wants to jeopardise it's future through ignorance of the rules.
I note that Severine has posted again on Cathy's Window, aplogising to US for any inconvenience caused! Bless her, I wouldn't blame her if she never used a Proboards site again...
If you want to read the whole ghastly saga, you will find it on my thread "Come in Guest - You Are Most Welcome", 'though it actually started on Paul's thread,
" Important Announcement, Guests Please Read ", both on Cathy's Window.
