Oooh never heard of it but it sounds very interesting. Is it any good? It is more of a novelty song, not indictative of typical country music. I don't care for it. It is a unique premise though.

Huh? Hysterical can mean REALLY funny I know, but my comment about 'shiny objects' was insulting to simian types.

Oooh never heard of it but it sounds very interesting. Is it any good? I think it's great! It is a novelty song but a very funny one, espcially as he has such a deep voice. It would be like Kate, in the early days when she could reach those really high notes, calling herself Dave! Al', although your comments may have been "harsh", I agree with them totally!

I always assumed that Kashka was a man because of "...lives in sin they say, with another man..." also their shadows "tall and slim". I remember hearing this song for the first time in 1978 and thinking - God! how liberating! No one else was writing lyrics like this back then. And not many do even now! It is a very warm, exotic, life-affirming song. I think it gives us all permission to live and love, as long as we don't hurt anyone in the process. Does anyone else think that Kate was extraordinarily mature to be writing this as a 20 year old? Incidentally, homosexuality is still punishable by death in most Islamic nations so if Kashka was a man, he had probably moved to England so he could follow his heart (this is what I always imagined when listening to it).

This is really working! ;D We just need to stir up some action on the other songs!
I had not really though that much about Kashka, and now you have really interested me in listening to it again, with your contributions in mind.
That was the idea... to share all our thoughts and feelings and knowledge about the songs/music/lyrics to enhance all our listening experiences!!

I never felt a great enthusiasm for this song, just thought "well you know, its nice" but thats all. Then after reading the thread, I listened again - with new ears I suppose - and thoroughly enjoyed it, so thanks everyone who contributed! Yes, always thought it was about 2 guys. KB is not backward in coming forward about male homosexuality. The other obvious example I can think of is Wow, and isn't there somestuff on the Cathy Demos? Somebody the Queen? Lets start filling up the blanks in these song categories - I love to hear other folks take on some of the songs, especially the more obscure ones.

I must add, that I am deeply, deeply sad for all of our brothers and sisters who have not made it through, or who have been scared for life.
I do hope that the future leaders will be a bit more creative in dealing with all of life's problems.
I will continue to IMAGINE PEACE.
I will enjoy a Kate Bush composition written around the events of the last few years should she have one.
I would hope, at best, that all of the Kashka's of the world can live and love with whomever they choose. S

I must add, that I am deeply, deeply sad for all of our brothers and sisters who have not made it through, or who have been scared for life. Of course..Knit fog, there's more chance of that working. (Call me a cynic)I agree. There have been some major world events in the time that Kate has been away. I wonder if the new album will refer to any of them. Up 'till now at least, it seems that KB has tended not to comment on contemporary events in any of her songs. Can anybody think of one?

Has Kate ever been to Baghdad?
Knit fog?

if you set out to knit with fog, the chances of success are very small..
I've no idea if Kate has visited Baghdad. Certainly not at the time she wrote the song.
