Revelations..
I seem to have had a few of these in my life recently.
Perhaps folks could tell us about the moment that the penny dropped. When they achieved that blinding insight that illuminated a problem or maybe the way forward. When the clouds parted, and all around was clarity. You know the sort of thing.. " Let There Be Light, and behold, he could see for miles " etc.
I look forward to seeing some of these inspirational moments if members would care to share them.

I hope it is OK that a newbie jumps right in....My epiphany came at a very early age. It is amazing to realize that if you have an innate gift to sense the needs of others, then the world becomes easier for you. I knew by the age of seven that people are more open to you, when they understand that you are aware of their feelings and situations. This ability can be honed, but I believe that communication and people skills just come more naturally for some of us. I was like the child with the man in his eyes. Maintaining the "rare innocence" is the challenge.

Thanks for this Iago. An elderly relative once told me that if you had good people and communication skills, then you would always work. Over the years I have found that she was right.
I hope that there are more contributions; don't feel obliged to make overly personal revelations.

Revelations to me... ... a painting by the French artist Raoul Dufy - Panorama de Sainte-Adresse -, which I discovered in one of my schoolbooks when I was about ten years old. I loved it at first sight! ... the film Vincent van Gogh by Vincente Minnelli, starring Kirk Douglas as van Gogh, which I saw for the first time at the age of about twelve. Vincent van Gogh's paintings and his painful and passionate life touched me deeply. ~~~ I had always loved to paint and draw, and both the painting by Raoul Dufy and the filmbiography on Vincent van Gogh aroused my interest in art. Love, Susanne

Susanne, I too was drawn* to art at an early age. My sisters and brother were quite accomplished. Your story reminded me of my recent viewing of the Phillips Collection (Van Vogh amoung the works). There were at least ten groups of students taking guided tours. I suppose their teachers were attempting to create that same kind of experience that you had. It was apparent that a large percentage of the kids could have cared less. But; you could tell that a few were rivited to the work. Those were the lucky ones. Art can bring joy and understanding to those whom will let it in.

Al, I'd love to see the "Phillips Collection"! It must be awesome! I feel parents play an important part in stimulating and encouraging their children's interest in art. My parents introduced me to art and architecture in castles, churches and museums from the age of ten - but without overloading me or forcing these things on me. Knowing and sharing my fascination with Vincent van Gogh, they visited the Rijksmuseum Kröller-Müller in Otterloo/Netherlands with me when I was fifteen. A large number of fantastic van Gogh paintings is shown there! Living not far from the Dutch border, this museum was a great destination for a day trip. A wonderful, unforgettable experience! Love, Susanne
