You'll admit it is a stumper. However, I'm not posting the answer yet.

There was no 'Other Dollar' to begin with. The assistant took $5 with him, he gave $3 to the guests and kept the other $2 so there would be no money left over. I hate trick questions.

You tell him, Paul. It is the inconsistency of mathematical processing and the re-ordering of the process that is the dollar thief here.
(3x10)-(3x9)+2=29 implied math - is not the same as 30-5+3+2=30 - actual math.
Creative accounting, big business has been getting away with it for years..

This is no trick question. It is a valid exercise in problem solving, which can be helpful when visiting cheap hotels. Of course, Adey, your analysis is correct. Buyer beware. ;D

answer to original question Take chicken across. Deposit chicken. Go back. Take Fox across. Deposit fox. Return with chicken. Deposit chicken. Return with grain. Deposit grain. Go back. Collect chicken. I like puzzles like this..... A man walks into a restraunt and orders a bowl of albatros soup. Upon tasting the soup he is violently sick. Why?

The man had been shipwrecked on a Island with his wife and some other guy.One day the other guy invited the man for dinner but goes without his wife because she has gone missing. When the man finishes the meal he asks what it was he had just eaten and the other man replies "Albatross soup." Eventually the man returns to civilisation, goes into a restaurant and orders 'Albatross soup'. When he tastes it he realises that he has never eaten Albatross soup at all and that he had eaten his wife on the Island.

How could anyone figure that out? There are so many other scenarios based on the clues.
Next brain teaser:
A man 6 feet tall is found dead in a shallow pool of water in the center of a small room. He has been dead for less than a day. The room where he died measures 12'w x 12'l X 12'h. There is no furniture carpeting or objects present other than a light fixture that is only 12 inches from the ceiling. It had radiant heat. The temperature was 82 degrees Farenheit. An entry door was the only access to the room. The man was wearing a cashmere sports coat, silk ascot and wool trousers. His shoes and socks have not been removed. His docksiders had no laces to remove.. He is found fully clothed, with no belts ties or socks removed from his body. No other clothing ropes or wires were in the room. There are no gunshot wounds or cuts on the corpse. There are no traces of blood. The door had been locked from the inside and no other person had been present. He did not die of natural causes. He did not drown. There was no blunt trauma apparent from a fall or running into the walls etc. No fumes harmful gases or poisons were discovered or in fact even a factor. He did not die from electrocution. There is nothing found hanging from the ceiling fixture. From the facts I've given you describe how this man died and the process (length and procedure) of his death. Every detail must be addressed except for the exclusive causes cited.

While I try to figure out AT's teaser, (I'm sure I used to know that one) here's a little puzzle to be going on with.
Imagine if you will that you have a piece of paper on which is written 1O 1O 1O. You also have in your hand a pen. How would you make the above read nine fifty with only one stroke of the pen? How would the answer read?

Hey, don't bury mine yet! You have to answer the last one to post a new one.
BTW mine is a hybrid of a simple one from a logic course. It will take a lengthy and thoughtful answer to cover all the details.

Alright, this may take me some time but I'm gonna try to answer this one step by step.
First thing; the room is a bathroom/toilet possibly a cubicle? More later...
