I've been on a music buying spree of late. In part to rebuild my collection (all was stolen less than a year ago) and mostly just 'cos I like new and different music.
Pick anyone of these artists or add your own. We'll devote an entire thread to each one that is of interest.

Personally, I've been trying to purchase Loreena McKennitt's "To Drive The Cold Night Away" to no avail. Seems to be out of print and I wanted to get it in time for the holidays. I'll keep trying.

I also have been listening to "Hoodoo" by Alison Moyet a lot lately. Along with "Alf" and "Hometime." Do I sense a new phase coming on. Which is your favorite song on "Hoodoo" Al? Mine is "This House."

Also, have you given "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" from McLachlan a good listen yet? One of my favorite albums. My favorite songs include "Elsewhere," "Ice," and "Fear." Her best album to date.

(on a different note... I can't imagine losing most of my CD collection. Even during the fires, most of my really precious ones were at my work! You seem to be doing a good job replacing them.)

Zan, if I had to pick one first (besides Steely Dan or Jaco, whom have been discussed here ad nauseum )
I guess I would pick Sinead O'Connor. I bought "Lillith Fair 2" today and loved her performance. Her treatment of "My Lagan Love" on her previous Celtic album was (please forgive me ) better than the a cappela version done by Kate) Her contributions on Celtic Heartbeat and Two Rooms were also exemplary.

Don't misconstrue though my preference though. Kate is still my favorite artist by far, by Sinead O'Connor has grown a lot on me lately. If you'd like to start a new thread on her please do. Any of the other suggestions will be fine too. Her are some that I bought today, if anyone wants to discuss one of them:

Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing"

It's funny - the mood of the first two Dire Straits albums is mostly very different from the two very uptempo singles that were released: "Sultans Of Swing" and "Lady Writer". I had a girlfriend back in the mid 80s who really liked the first Dire Straits album (and a lot of Joni Mitchell) so I'm quite familiar with that one Of course, I remember Sultans of Swing from the radio back in the late seventies.

Lou Reed "Magic and Loss"

This is one I evidently should get.

Steely Dan "Android Warehouse"

I might be the only other person here who has this one. One or two of the songs almost sound like they could have been on Gaucho, although I guess they were recorded at least 10 years earlier. I love "Everything Must Go", and also Walter Becker's new solo album "Circus Money" is really good.

Joni I listen to. Dire Straits not so much. 'must have been on sale. 'reminds me of the comedian who was about to by blank cassette tape for 2.99 each. At the register though John Denver tapes were .99 cents each. So instead he bought ten of those and recorded over them. (which wouldn't have worked - but amusing just the same)
