I did not post much today because the mindless trivia is becoming annoying to me. Some is good, but too much scares people away- including me. Other opinions?

Other opinions? sure yer right, but it's fun and relaxing to have it here, but maybe something else is annoying you and your taking it out on the boards members by calling them mindless, insipid, fawning, sheepeople! Whoa... al that's rough, take a break al, you deserve one! get some sun ! buy something!stimulate thee economy, watch thee world spiral into a higher, finer vibration! One person's Mindless Trivia is another person's raison d'être. I am also the type who easily says, "hey, this is silly! I love it!" and then the next day says, "Woah, this is TOO silly! I don't like it!" - however, my borderline is different from yours which is different from someone else's.
Yes, some people JUST like silliness, which is not good; others like no silliness whatsoever, which is even worse. Those who just want silliness have places to get it out of there system, and those who want everything dry can ignore the silly areas.
This is why I like web boards - it's easy to see what's what.

Or obsequious banal sycophants (J/K of course and especially FF, 'cos I was not singling any one person or post out - just an overall sense of a slide in direction).... I'm sorry if I sounded insulting. I am as silly or corny as anyone here on occasion. It's just that I prefer to keep some balance and chemistry going. As we grow and become more inclusive, we should remember the character of the board and why it has been a good place to be. Other forums have come and gone by becoming chat rooms and cliques. I see some of our long standing members getting lost in the fray. Caliber and balance, to be sure, should be maintained. That said, I am highly impressed with the intellect and humor that has been displayed by all the new faces. Thanks for the perspective. ;D

It may be worth reminding everyone that the Experiment IV (secured) board is a great playground to be silly, controversial or anonymous. Request a password for it after you've reached 100 posts without being banned.

Good humor and fun is an important part of any group... but the trivia should never outweigh the actual posts. I also don't support the rate at which these are played, excluding all other members who may want to join in occasionally, but are not logged on quite as much. We should pace the games and the posts, and spend an equal amount of time thinking about a thoughful or interesting post as is spent on the humorous one word ones.

I have mixed feelings about games. Kate-related games on a Kate board make a lot of sense (I think the Word Drop game is particularly brilliant, and several posts there have made me laugh out loud - a rarity for me). Also every board on the internet is required, by law, to have a Word Association game (which personally I find interesting for about three posts then get bored with, but people seem to love them, so go figure).
On the other hand, I'm an admin on another (non-Kate-related) board, where one of the most popular sections was the game section. Then we started having bandwidth problems. We closed the game section, the bandwidth problem went away, one poster who spent his entire time in the games section loudly quit, we got a better connection, re-opened the games section, and now while it's still popular, it is nowhere near as big as it used to be. Which is a good thing.
E-ZBoard has an interesting way to curtail games - you can't post more than once a minute. Which doesn't sound like much, but for Game Whores (as we admins on the board I was talking about call folks who spend most of their time in the Games section), waiting a whole minute to post a single word it can seem like an hour. I know it's not how proboards is set up, but maybe there's an option somewhere to somewhat limit posting.
I guess what I'm trying to say is what everyone else is - games have their place, but shouldn't shouldn't be the main course.

I say "Let it be" I participate all over according to my mood. I don't wana feel like i should do this or that. Thought is great, but also must rest at times. Trivia can be a release, a fun participation. It shouldn't become monotono, but still...

Trivia can be a release, a fun participation. It shouldn't become monotono, but still... Consideration is what I am looking for. Tone and intent will be what allows this board to evolve in any particular direction. Intent and predisposition, if you will, does take thought and consideration. This line of posting is only shedding light on what a moderator should do. i.e. moderate the tone and direction. BTW, the response has been great. I already feel like we're back on track.

You must forgive me, I hadn't actually read the very first message I can understand this totally, some times it's the same for me, i enter with an appetite, but find myself not being able to reply to anything, othertimes it's excellent, don't know where to start. Absolutely!! It seems so!
