Wuthering Heights was her first single because Kate insisted on it. She even burst into tears in Bob Mercer's office (then with EMI) over it. Mercer had another song in mind for the first single. What was it?

That be James And The Cold Gun. Perhaps, looking back, Kate might think that would've been a better choice commercially Wuthering Heights was a great single, but maybe for the second one... she jumped in and was labelled as "weird," which really is a shame. She is completely in touch with pretty much anything I can think of. But yes, the original plan was JATCG

Yes! I love that once WH shot to #1 and stayed there for 4 weeks, NO ONE at EMI ever question Kate's sensibilities again! ;D
