Hello, Al. Nice post... Kevin... I forgot my previous username. It may have been "Kevin." Anyway, I'm nearly late. I just want to say that while violence is usually the wrong answer (and I'll add, often a counter-productive one) there is a justifiable time for it. I think usually occurs when anger is not actually involved... impossible to finish. Now I am actually late. Mostly I just wanted to say "hello." Hello!

You always were effective at making a point and holding my feet to the fire. I hope you will continue to post here. I agree with your response. Although violence may be the only choice in matters of grave implications; it is rarely used as the last resort. This country applies violence too readily and too often. My measuring stick is, in general terms, in appropriate response in the least provocative and well advised tempered action. The response should not escalate or exceed the gravity of the conflict...measured response should always prevail in reason over emotion...

Thanks. I've been looking at some Kate interviews from the 70s and 80s recently and was surprised at the poise shown by someone I always considered to be just this side of neurotic. It sparked a renewed interest in her music for me... not that it ever entirely left. Anyway,But this country, not that it distinguishes it from any other country, operates on violence. I doubt it would know what to do absent it... ...and there aren't any utopian novels I know of that address the subject. I'd like to read one. Just one day without violence... no murder, rape, weapons deals, military advertisements, landmines, ultimate fighting, meat, dairy, covert action, cluster bombs, torture, surveillance (in order to later bomb, torture and/or kill) ... violence is big business. And what's good for big business is good for this country. So it goes, to steal from Mr. Vonnegut while paraphrasing President Eisenhower!I don't know. It seems too tricky a thing. I think the measuring stick is, did everything receive an equal consideration of interests? If yes, then no one has any justifiable reason to complain. Unless, of course, the complaint is being addressed to God.

Thanks. I've been looking at some Kate interviews from the 70s and 80s recently and was surprised at the poise shown by someone I always considered to be just this side of neurotic. It sparked a renewed interest in her music for me... not that it ever entirely left. As frenetic as her performances seem; her off stage persona belies the appearance of neurosis. She is calm and calculating. And I don't believe she is really bothered by what other people think... The defense budget drives so much of industry. The United States has the world's largest Navy. The second largest Navy is the U.S. Air Force. And all this weaponry and equipment does nothing to protect us from terrorism. It is indeed breeding it. But we feel compelled to keep spending at the peril of the deficit and our social stability. If our focus was on education, innovations in technology and green energy, we would have more to offer the disenchanted world than a base on their soil, ships in their harbors and drones killing their children... As far as my beliefs go our collective will is the voice of God and the hand of Satan. The consequence is the result of our intent and actions...Good and evil are not personified past our need to label the concepts. And the moral fabric is sewn by our evolution of thought. IMHO of course...
