...I was halfway crucified I was on the other side of no tomorrow You walked in And my life began again Just when I'd spent the last piaster I could borrow All night long We would sing that stupid song And every word we sang I knew was true

Great idea for a thread, Al. Nobody stopped to hear him Though he played so sweet and high They knew he had never Been on their T.V. So they passed his music by I meant to go over and ask for a song Maybe put on a harmony I heard his refrain As the signal changed He was playing real good for free ~ For Free, Joni Mitchell (Ladies Of The Canyon, 1970)You'll never know that you had all of me. You'll never know the poetry you've stirred in me. Of all the stars I've seen that shine so brightly, I've never known or felt in myself so rightly, It's in me. It's in me, And you know it's for real. Tuning in on your saxophone. Doo-bee-doo-bee-doo... ~ The Saxophone Song, Kate Bush (The Kick Inside, 1978)You say I have turned Like the enemies you've earned But I can remember All the good things you are And so I ask you please Can I help you find the peace and the star Oh, my friend What time is this To trade the handshake for the fist ~ The Fiddle And The Drum, Joni Mitchell (Clouds, 1969)"What could he do? Should have been a rock star." But he didn't have the money for a guitar. "What could he do? Should have been a politician." But he never had a proper education. "What could he do? Should have been a father." But he never even made it to his twenties. What a waste -- Army dreamers. Ooh, what a waste of Army dreamers. ~ Army Dreamers, Kate Bush (Never for Ever, 1980)There's a man drawing pictures On the sidewalk with chalk Just as fast as he draws 'em Rain come down and wash 'em off "Keep the drinks comin' girl 'Til I can't feel anything I'm just a chalk mark in a rainstorm[/b] I'm just the beat of - The beat of black wings." ~ The Beat Of Black Wings, Joni Mitchell (Chalk Mark In A Rainstorm, 1988)[/color] It’s raining What has become of my painting All the colours are running... ~ The Painter's Link, Kate Bush (Aerial, 2005)

It's hard being me letting you be...
Bridge Over Troubled Water
When you're weary, feeling small, When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all; I'm on your side. when times get rough And friends just cant be found, Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down. Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down.
When you're down and out, When you're on the street, When evening falls so hard I will comfort you. Ill take your part. When darkness comes And pains is all around, Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down. Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down.
Sail on silvergirl, Sail on by. Your time has come to shine. All your dreams are on their way. See how they shine. If you need a friend I'm sailing right behind. Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind. Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind.
Simon and Garfunkel

^ A beautiful song, Al KT: I think the first album I bought was Bridge Over Troubled Water. I liked the songs on that. I think again that's been a big attraction for me. I'm sure stimulated by traditional music, the thing of the structure of songs and having a story, it does attract me. I'd rather be a sparrow than a snail Yes i would, if I could, I surely would I'd rather be a hammer than a nail Yes I would, if I only could, I surely would
Away, I'd rather sail away Like a swan that's here and gone A man gets tied up to the ground He gives the world its saddest sound Its saddest sound
I'd rather be a forest than a street Yes I would, if I could, I surely would I'd rather feel the earth beneath my feet Yes I would, if I only could, I surely wouldSimon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water (Live 1969) www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYKJuDxYr3I

Bridge Over Troubled Water is a very beautiful song indeed.
Dreaming comes so easily 'Cause it's all that I've known True love is a fairytale I'm damaged, so how would I know? Damaged, Plumb (candycoatedwaterdrops)
Through the wind and the rain she stands hard as a stone In a world that she can't rise above But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place Where she's loved. Concrete angel. Concrete Angel, Martina McBride (Greatest Hits)
I guess I'd like to be alone With nothing broken, nothing thrown Just don't ask me how I am Just don't ask me how I am Luka, Suzanne Vega (Solitude Standing)
Is that why they call me a sullen girl -- sullen girl They don't know I used to sail the deep and tranquil sea but he washed my shore and he took my pearl And left an empty shell of me Sullen Girl, Fiona Apple (Tidal)

A Day in the Life
"I read the news today, oh boy About a lucky man who made the grade And though the news was rather sad Well I just had to laugh I saw the photograph *"
Beatles
same tune:
And tomorrow is another day - She couldn't promise him that she would stay - that she would not again be swept away a love so strong will surely find a way.
and if you use her as a pawn what will you do when that goes wrong so I will now be on my way I guess there is really nothing else to say...

And I say to you In time even the sun will die In time even the strong will cry In time even the weak will fly In time it will be just you and I
Locked and Loaded, Johnny Clegg (One Life)
My heart is broken It is worn out at the knees Hearing muffled Seeing blind Soon it will hit the Deep Freeze
Cracking, Suzanne Vega (Suzanne Vega)
Travel Arrival Years Of an inch and a step toward a source I'm coming to you I'll be there in time
Pilgrimage, Suzanne Vega (Days of Open Hand)

So sorry your world is tumbling down I'll watch you through these nights Rest your head and go to sleep Because my child, this is not our farewell. This is not our farewell.

Tell me I'm frozen But what can I do? Can't tell the reasons I did it for you

Lost in the darkness Tried to find your way home I want to embrace you And never let you go
Almost hope you're in heaven So no-one can hurt your soul Living in agony 'Cause I just do not know Where you are

Do you remember when you used to bring me flowers time after time When we used to play like children When you used to miss me I missed you When we used to hold each other We used to enjoy every day we had together I hated to be apart from you But now when it's all over what will be what will be

Oh the sisters of mercy They are not departed or gone They were waiting for me When I thought that I just can't go on And they brought me their comfort And later they brought me this song Oh I hope you run into them You who've been travelling so long
Yes you who must leave everything That you cannot control It begins with your family But soon it comes around to your soul Well I've been where you're hanging I think I can see how you're pinned When you're not feeling holy Your loneliness says that you've sinned
Well they lay down beside me I made my confession to them They touched both my eyes And I touched the dew on their hem If your life is a leaf That the seasons tear off and condemn They will bind you with love That is graceful and green as a stem
When I left they were sleeping I hope you run into them soon Don't turn on the lights You can read their address by the moon And you won't make me jealous If I hear that they sweetened your night We weren't lovers like that And besides it would still be all right
Sisters Of Mercy - Leonard Cohen
