OK, well to stop thinks ending with a rather unexciting 'plop' rather than a 'bang', we have an extra round. The winner is clearly Night Of The Swallow - voted the best Kate song, in a roundabout way, by members of "The Sensual World" forum! But we need a #2 and a #3. So, from these 2, vote for your favourite: [glow=magenta,2,300]Running Up That Hill Hello Earth[/glow] You can discuss any of the 3 finalists in this thread, and then we'll have a final top 3! So get voting! Thanks for all your votes everyone, it's been fun

did you noticed that both are from HOL?
i changed my mind and now my favorite is the song known as [glow=red,2,300]Running Up That Hill [/glow] or his nickname [glow=red,2,300]Ruth[/glow] hello earth is an extremely powerfull song, but i have some little problems with the choir part ther: a. the choir part inserted in first place to fill the gaps and was not a part of the original song b. kate didn't wrote this part (i think) c. it drags on a little too long. but otherwise it's a great song and i'm voting ruth because it's entirely kate. i'll be happy with HE in the 2nd place, though

... i'll be happy with HE in the 2nd place, though It could end up as second, but I believe ''Night of the Swallow'' has already won first place. We are voting, correct me if I'm wrong, for 2nd, and resultingly, 3rd place. My vote goes for RUTH as well. It is a signature song for her. Popular on many levels. Maybe her most inspired effort.

I gave this away on the previous thread, but I'd vote RUTH out of these two, by just the thinnest of margins.
Absolutely her signature piece - I agree. To have placed a song with this much integrity so highly in the drek of the music charts (at least in the UK) was a rare achievement indeed. Not quite the high art of Hello Earth, but a unique and profound composition, perfectly performed.
To these ears, KB in a nutshell..
To recap -
RUTH 2nd Hello Earth - 3rd

Agreed.
The Dreaming especially, but also HOL have both haunted me since their release. I know why, but that hardly matters. She's never been 2nd rate, but Kate was an absolute giant on these recordings.. it seems impossible that she could reach that level of achievement again..

HE. As RA wrote: it haunts me... It sticks better on the mind than peanutbutter ... and ruth.

Just a thought..
We haven't - as far as I'm aware - voted on the actual albums. An impossible task I know, but then again all of our individual decisions on this Kate rate have been difficult, if not actually impossible.
Anyone sympathetic to the idea of having a four round knockout that pits the albums up against each other? Go on, dare to think the unthinkable..

Well neither, I think Wuthering Heights, the song to which most of us owe our love of Kate to; I know I most certainly do! It was her first hit, and the best in my opinion.

It's not because it was a hit, and my i add RUTH, one of her best songs, but because it was the first song really, i know it was for me, and it started all of this for many people. Without it who knows what would of happened.

Ok, that's my fault. Being fairly 'deep into' Mrs. Bushs' songs I didn't realize (enough) there are still people not knowing her work and 'need' to be initiated as it were...

I'll go with Hello Earth. I didn't like this song at first, but I guess once it grew on me, it really grew on me( and not in the yucky fungus way, but in a more haunting way. err...maybe "grew" was not a good word) *ahem* Hello Earth, hands down. hello earth is an extremely powerfull song, but i have some little problems with the choir part ther: a. the choir part inserted in first place to fill the gaps and was not a part of the original song b. kate didn't wrote this part (i think) c. it drags on a little too long. but otherwise it's a great song and i'm voting ruth because it's entirely kate. i'll be happy with HE in the 2nd place, though I read somewhere that she got the choir bits from the film Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht
