I absolutely don't think that this song is not relevant today. if you'll search in the news about iran and north korea you'll find that both are holding nuclear power stations and missiles and i'm very afraid of the results, especially from iran because it's a terroristic nation and if she'll decide to launch missiles the first destiny wil be israel, i'm not in panic because of it but i'm clearly worried about the possibility . Even if there was no nuclear threat i don't think this song will lose it power. it too much menacing and beautiful to fade in time. i can't believe you can actually vote it off.

First, let me say that I am now feeling like I should have voted off "Moving" instead of "Breathing". Not because of the responses to my earlier post or because of the message conveyed by "Breathing", but for musical reasons. I have just recently become enamoured with "Moving", but the more I listen to the 2 today, the more I think that may be a passing infatuation. Figuring in the ending of "Breathing", I think it is pulling ahead of "Moving" for me now.
So, Sto... can I change my vote and drop "TSW" and "Moving" instead of "TSW" and "Breathing"? This is too hard!
As for the relevance of the message conveyed by "Breathing", I find it even more relevant now than it was in the 80s. I think that the nuclear threat from religious extremists and theocracies is far greater than the threat from communist countries ever was. Maybe the former don't have the means right now, but they are motivated to eventually get them and irrational enough to use them (my opinion here, of course).[/quote]

I vote to eliminate "The Sensual World" and "Breathing". Choosing between "Moments of Pleasure" and "Breathing" is hard for me. Although they both seem more repetitive than a lot of her music, I find Breathing to be the more repetitive of the two. I really like the end of Breathing though; to me it foreshadows what was to come on "The Dreaming". Also, in spite of the powerful message in the lyrics of "Breathing", I find "MOP" to be a much more moving song. I guess it is the combination of the melody, the personal feeling conveyed by the prominence of Kates piano playing, and the way the lyrics always get me thinking of my own "special people" and leave me wanting to connect with them. Unless I am distracted while it is playing, MOP nearly always evokes a deep emotional response in me. Hurrah!

Hurroo..(enjoyed your thoughts on Breathing by the way..) Well, cheer up Adey - Sto may not even let me change my vote! What I really need is a couple more weeks to make up my mind about this. Moving? Breathing? Breathing? Moving? AAAAGGGHHHH!

AAAAGGGHHHH! of course that moving should go, it wasn't ment to be here in the first place, moving is really a great song but with all the honor the first place of kick inside needed to go to "wuthering heights". i can't believe that kate's signature song was left out in the cold.

Well Sal', you'll have to make a definitive answer by tomorrow morning - it looks like yours is the swing vote which will decide whether "Breathing" or "Moving" will be eliminated! As far as I can see, you're currently voting out "Breathing", but if that changes before tomorrow morning, post it here - it's all resting on you

... it's all resting on you Few things heighten the senses like a little PRESSURE! After taking a little "breather" from both songs today, I just listened to them both again. As usual of late, "Moving" made me go "mmm" - a la Kate. But "Breathing" made the hair on my arms stand up (seriously!). So, I am sorry to disappoint you, Adey, but I think Breathing finally won my vote. This post will come in after midnight UK time (won't it?), so maybe you can persuade Sto to disqualify it. I think that at some level of consciousness I waited this long on purpose . I want fate to intervene! If Sto hadn't said I was the tie breaker I would probably have abstained at this point. That would have been pretty wimpy though. So my final vote is to dump "TSW" and "Moving" . Is this always so hard?

Don't let my entreaties put you off.. I'm really just playing the game There aren't any losers on this thread, indeed throughout the whole competition. Kate's canon of work is of such quality, that it really is unimportant what reaches the top spot. I'm more interested in seeing what the folks here vote for, to try and understand why the've voted that way and to see if a little gentle pressure can persuade anyone to change their position. Mat, I too was surprised that WH didn't win The Kick Inside round - but that's the sort of controversy that makes the game interesting.. And anyway, my all time fave has yet to gather a single vote against it. So do your worst you bunch of artistic vandals (I bet you're all secret Tracey Emmin fans.. )
