Well, it's going to be done a little differently this round. As there are so many b-sides/unreleased/live tracks, for the first round you have to choose your favourite FIVE b-sides out of all of them. There's a list below of some suggestions to help you, but you can add your own as well. Hopefully more than one person will choose some of the b-sides, and those will be included in the list to continue playing the game. If it sounds complicated, I know what I mean, so don't worry! You can choose any b-side/unreleased track except the "Cathy Demos", as those will make up the final KateRate vote. So, possible choices: 1. The Empty Bullring 2. Ran-Tan Waltz 3. Passing Through The Air 4. December Will Be Magic Again 5. Warm And Soothing 6. Lord Of The Reedy River 7. Ne T'En Fui Pas 8. Un Baiser D'Enfant 9. Under The Ivy 10. Burning Bridge 11. My Lagan Love 12. The Handsome Cabin Boy 13. Not This Time 14. Be Kind To My Mistakes 15. I'm Still Waiting 16. Ken (from the comic strip film 'GLC') 17. One Last Look Around The House Before We Go... 18. Experiment IV 19. You Want Alchemy 20. Show Me A Little Devotion 21. Wuthering Heights (New Vocals) 22. The Man I Love 23. Do Bears...? 24. Another Day (with Peter Gabriel) 25. Candle In The Wind 26. Rocket Man 27. Brazil 28. Home For Christmas 29. Don't Give Up 30. No Self Control 31. Games Without Frontiers 32. Running Up That Hill (the live upbeat one with David Gilmour) 33. The Confrontation 34. Mna Na H-Eireann I'm sure there are loads I've missed, so if you can remember any more, I'll add them! So, all you have to do is choose your 5 favourites and list them. Voting closes Friday 23rd April 2004. Enjoy

You knew I had to ask this, but how do Don't Give Up, Games Without Frontiers, and No Self Control fit into this? Should you separate the voting for a round of covers and collaborations? Maybe this is just B-sides or unreleased, then live tracks, the covers and collaborations, then Cathy demos? Just thinking out loud, Sto? By the way, you may be familiar with her vocals on the first two (obviously) but for a little taste of what was to come on her next album, listen for her outrageous delivery of "no self control"... it's absolutely out of control! I have been trying to get you to see the influence working on Peter 3 must have had on her creativity, but it falls on deaf ears. Hey, he"opened the windows" right? Just let me know if there's any further interest here.

No Zan, it's just totally my fault. I'll add them right away - I knew I'd forget loads, I did the list in about three minutes this morning... And "No Self Control" is brilliant - they both sound great on it. ve the actual song, too. What year was it recorded in?

And "No Self Control" is brilliant - they both sound great on it. ve the actual song, too. What year was it recorded in? No problem, I just didn't know if they would count in this round. About Gabriel, supposedly they met when Kate arranged the tribute to Bill Duffield, Gabriel being an old friend of his, in April of 1979. She was invited to the sessions for Peter Gabriel 3 during 1979 (The first 3 albums have no titles, and the 4th titled "Security" was only so called because the label insisted he name it something. So, they are sometimes referred to as: Peter 1, Peter 2, Peter 3, and to hard core fans: Peter 4 instead of Security. His subsequent albums are titled: "So", "Us", and lastly "Up." Not much for catchy titles, hmm?) Phil Collins was also on hand. She provided backing vocals for the 3 songs and then invites him to perform in December 1979 on her holiday special, where they perform Another Day. During the Gabriel sessions, she was introduced to and began to experiment with different recording devices including the Fairlight. Gabriel's album was released in January 1980, while Kate was working on tracks for Never For Ever. In the liner notes for NFE, she thanks Peter Gabriel for "opening the windows." I believe there are many changes, either brought about or encouraged by this collaboration, and I love to listen to these albums together. Actually, I think their careers mirror one another's at many points, and have worked on this musically as a sort of thesis . He also collaborated with her on Don't Give Up, of which he gives much of the credit to her for the resulting sound. I was just joking about the "deaf ears" part since I can prattle on about this forever. I just think it's hard to appreciate one and not the other. For years I always felt that I should really like Kate Bush... the timing just wasn't right until that one fateful day. I have amended here, considering the titles are also referred to by their album covers, maybe more often in the UK.

The first three PG LP's are sometimes referred to as Car, Scratch, and Melt. It even says this on the official Peter Gabriel website.
Oh, Sto', I don't see The Confrontation listed.

Not sure about WH NV being included. It is essentially a remix of the original.

That refers to the album covers, for those confused (or following along). I have heard that too, on occasion. I hope this was just for additional information, if you understand me. I didn't know you had any interest in a discussion about Gabriel, or were a fan. I was only sketching it out for a moment, but, if you'd like, you can finish the details.

I wouldn't really call my self a 'FAN' I'm more of a PG novice. I only have Shaking the Tree and Hit, but I do plan at some point in getting the entire back catologue. If it's anything like what I did when I bought the David Bowie back catologue, I should have the whole set within 2 weeks. Maybe in the future I could contribute more. Peter Gabriel 4 is looking up to be the first buy though.( I never buy stuff in order) Biko, I don't remember, and Family Snapshot are damn fine songs. (They are on this album aren't they?)

Peter Gabriel 4/Security has The Rhythm Of The Heat, San Jacinto, I Have The Touch, The Family And The Fishing Net, Shock The Monkey, Lay Your Hands On Me, Wallflower & Kiss Of Life which are all incredible, of course. I usually can't decide whether I like this one or the previous one better. If you want the songs you mentioned, then it's Peter Gabriel 3/Melt: Intruder, No Self-Control, Start, I Don't Remember, Family Snapshot, And Through the Wire, Games Without Frontiers, Not One of Us, Lead a Normal Life, Biko. This has the Kate tracks, which are a good starting point to enjoying the album, and Snapshot is one of my faves. I would take it slowly and let each one grow on you before purchasing another. The music can be so interesting, you may not take it all in, just like Kate. But, you may thrive on "full immersion" I have everything I can get my hands on including Genesis (within reason) and would be happy to discuss it with you and help with any questions where I can. I'm still working on the B-sides, but I can't post until I'm sure I have thought of everything. I seem to keep thinking of one I forgot.

Thanks Xan.
I knew I might've got the two albums mixed up. I'll try and get back to you when I've started collecting.
A friend of mine has most of the early Genesis with Peter, but I was never really keen on this. I think I might give it another try, things do tend to grow on me quite quick if I give them the chance.

Thanks for the new tracks to add, she has so many more b-sides than I could think of!
Paul, I'm not sure about "Wuthering Heights" being an almost-remix. It's a complete re-recording, so I added it as a kind of 'bonus' track. I don't think anyone will vote for it though, although I know that Al' loves the screamy-bit at the end. Al', I'd like to know if you'd have added it to this list when you come back from your trip...?
Zan, I may just have to go completely mad in the near future and buy Peter 3 as a starting point.
