All the banners stop waving And the flags stop flying And the silence comes over Thousands of soldiers Thousands of soldiers
Who is that girl? Do I know her face? Who is that girl?
Joanni, Joanni wears a golden cross And she looks so beautiful in her armour Joanni, Joanni blows a kiss to God And she never wears a ring on her finger
All the cannon are firing And the swords are clashing And the horses are charging And the flags are flying And the battle is raging And the bells, the bells are ringing
Who is that girl? Do I know her face? Who is that girl?
Joanni, Joanni wears a golden cross And she looks so beautiful in her armour Joanni, Joanni blows a kiss to God And she never wears a ring on her finger Joanni, Joanni, Joanni, Joanni, blows a kiss to God And she just looks beautiful in her armour Beautiful in her armour

It's a story of that French girl who was sent from Maria (the mother of Jesus ;D ) "For" the French nation, isn't it ? well, this is a very speacial song. I think it could as well be on A Sky of Honey. The Sound is very "aerial". And that would fit with CD 2. But it's just my opinion of Joanni. What about you ?

Tut tut tut Ragnar... "That french girl"... She is singing about Jeanny D'arc the girl who led an army agains the french army and was burnt for herracy on the stakes... I like it when a song is written not describing the way her skin crackles on the bonfire...

Actually, in the end Jeanne was burnt for wearing men's clothes because they couldn't find another crime to burn her for.

Kate's sung about Joan of Arc before in the absolutely fantastic Where are the Lionhearts. It's funny that Joan was 19 when she lead the French army to war and Kate was 19 when she burst onto the public scene and she also hasn't worn a ring on her finger (ie, not been married) like Joan. Although oddly on the cover of the November issue of Q magazine you can just about make out a ring on the third finger of her left hand.

I think you're right Amy, that could certainly be a wedding/engagement/eternity ring on her finger. I'm constantly amazed at Kate's skill in controlling the release or discovery of information about her private life..

I know, sometimes I think that she must be living in Switzerland or something, because as far as I can tell, no one knows where she lives when evferyone knows where other celebrities live and the papparazzi hound them.

Well a music magazine says she lives just outside Reading, Berkshire and the tabloids say she lives on an island in the Thames and as the Thames runs by Reading that's probable. She also has a house in the Devon coast which has been mentioned in the papers because people want to go rambling over her land - not because it's hers but because they believe they have a right to walk were they want. It's a common issue with the rich and famous because they own such huge lumps of land. And she has an apartment in central London too as mentioned, I think, in Q mag. She gets about a bit, doesn't she?

Mmmh... I wonder why some celebrities feel as though they have to but 70million dollar houses in boiling hot weather in America when it's perfectly nice here. I prefer cold to hot anyway.
Boo climate change!

They play in this in coffee shops like Starbucks all the time. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. Regardless, love the cool 80s sound. Sounds like Peter Gabriel c. 1988.

Whenever I hear this (which is quite a lot) I alway think she's saying, during the 'French bit' "Ah, that's Kate Bush; sex magnet" I thought that she really can't be saying that (though she's more than welcome to of course) so I thought it was high time to find out what she really saying and I found it! Have a look:
Elle parle à Dieu et aux anges dans ses prières Venez Sainte Catherine et Sainte Marguerite, Elle a besoin de vous deux. Ah les voix, les voix du feu, Chante avec moi petite soeur, J’entends les voix, les voix.
She speaks to God and the angels in her prayers Come St. Catherine and St. Margaret, She needs you two, Ah the voices, the voices of fire, Sing with me, little sister, I hear the voices, the voices.
I'm due to get a book on Joan of Arc for Xmas. I remember being fascinated by her when I was little and this song has nagged away at me and I thought I must find out more. She seemed so sincere in her actions that I can't believe she could have been mad - just like Kate! I just noticed I wrote in this thread before about the similarities of Joan and Kate.
