No doubt about this one...deffinetly the Whole story's version... it's much more passionate. The ending is magnificant!!! She takes her voice to a place where it seems that she couldn't reach in the kick inside. It makes the original version sound dull.

definately the re-recorded version, the voice is better and the added end is the best part

I like the original verision best for two reasons: 1. It's the reason Kate Bush became Kate Bush 2. The guitar solo at the end is wonderful. Without the extra vocals it just carries you along on a pleasant wave. The new vocals diminish that effect.

The new vocals diminish that effect. Yeah but they make the hair stand up on my neck....

Strange that originally I prefered the newer version, but there's something about the eerieness and ghostly pitch of her voice that makes TKI's magical. I therefore choose the original.
Also: China Drum's cover of WH is the best cover I've heard, truly brilliant. I highly recommend it.

I first heard it when some girl went on Stars In Their Eyes and after that I heard the original and then The Whole Story. I have to say my favourite is the original, it's just magnificent!

Has anyone heard the China Drum cover? It's excellent, but not as good as the original.

I've given some more thought to why I like the original version better, and why the guitar solo sets the song off for me. The vocals end completely....then the beautiful solo starts, and continues to the fade. The effect is one of giving you time, during the solo, to reflect on what the heck it was that you just heard. What kind of life force have you encountered here? It's like a presentation--This is Kate Bush...what do you think? And you can do it to the beautiful dying threads of melody. I've never heard the effect so profoundly ehxibited in any other song. I must admit I also have visual images of that graceful arm sweeping from side to side over her head...and of her jumping up and down and waving ecstatically at the Hammersmith Odeon. The new vocals are beautiful and her voice is fuller...but, it gives me the impression of a facelift. No matter how many times Jane Seymour gets a facelift she'll still never be as pretty as she was at 21.

(BTW isn't 'orangeman' what you'd call a UT - University of Tennessee fan? - or are you a Syracuse grad? And if you're KY's biggest fan, then I've got claim to the remaining south. I respectfully disagree with the facelift analogy tho' Kate was not that much older when she did the new vocals. The original, albeit powerful, is a bit naive and child-like in comparison. Of course this is just my opinion. Your view, I'm sure, means more to you than mine. ;D

My opinion is constantly in flux, depending on what comes into contact with the old grey matter. There is very little she has ever done, in any form, that I don't love. Right now I'm trying to recruit a Toriphile into the fold. You wouldn't think it would be that difficult. But this is America!! Kate is very Britsh!!!! And I'm a UK fan not UT. Sorry. The Orange Man is from a song I wrote when I was young. But you are my favorite Tennessean, Al! ;D
