I'll start the ball rolling. I miss Malcolm's wit and edgy comments. More stimulating and controversial topics would be of more interest to me. So somebody pick a fight.

I'm with you on that one AlTruest, but I guess for that we'd really need more members. By the way, welcome back...the boards missed ya. It's been dead in here lately

Well, I suppose controversy is more interesting than Love and peace. Right, where do you want me to argue with you Al? Being in our 40`s and still liking a popstar enough to keep posting on a message board, how sad is that? If you had half an imagination about you, you could dream up all manner of controversy, perhaps you fall in the general human category of perpetual laziness. Or would it bear my experience out that Kate Bush fans have a tendancy to want to connect in harmonious ways?

Without controversy and conflict, love and peace have no meaning- they would at least have no strength.
As for contriving controversy; that would be a bit perverse, unless it was tongue in cheek (which is more of what I had in mind) Disagreement does however foster intellectual stimulation. But personal attacks encourage animosity. That was not the goal in my suggestion.
Connecting on this board with other like minded people to me is not sad at all. I can share with people from all over the planet. I would find sitting around watching television to be sad.. and far less stimulating. Enjoying music and other people is a worthwhile endeavor. I will continue in that persuit with no shame.

Al, you are of course quite correct, I`m going to have my work cut out for me if I am going to stimulate you!
I`ve always believed that any Idea can only have real power if it can be tested; therefore, we live in a universe with a cosmic law: All existence has within it the seed of its opposite. Symbolised in the east by The Tao, Yin/Yang.
Within love and peace is war and indifference.
What say you?

We are in total agreement. Now wasn't that boring!

See, I was right, you only have half an imagination. The boredom sets in after you give up on the project. Remember, "Sat in Your Lap"......."Some say that heaven is hell, some say that hell is heaven" Agreement can be every bit as interesting as disagreement. It depends on the quality of your contribution. So, to paraphrase a quote by Hollywood actress, Joan Crawford, "Contibute big dear couterpart, contribute big"..(She actually said to F.Scott Fitzgerald, the writer of the screenplay for her next film, "Write hard, Mr Fitzgerald, write hard")

d**n! MT, must you always hold my feet to the fire! You are correct, even though I am usually willing to go the extra step in my responses; I did not put the appropriate effort into that post.

Don`t beat yourself up Al, you have a most interesting view. I`m pretty sure between us we can meet many of the challenges this world has given us, rising stronger for the experience. What say you?

Every now and then I take myself too seriously. I use humor to take myself down a peg through either self-deprecation or sarcasm. I try to keep my ego in check somehow; but before long I preen around, full of myself.
I think creative people struggle with many demons. The reason some of us are creative is that we have a skewed view of the world. Our unique perspective is often mistaken for brilliance. But by the yardstick of the mundane and 'normal' populace, we are very often brilliant in comparison.
The naivete of youth need not be lost with age. You just need to disregard rampant ignorance that prevades much of our social intercourse.
If you are able to combine that conditioned innocence with wisdom; you can speak with a beautiful voice. Kate does this. That's why this group can speak on a level that some people can't hear.
To answer your question; yes we can arrive at a deeper understanding of the human condition. Whether we reach the ultimate root of reality makes little difference. It is the journey and perserverance that is important. Much like in the 'Myth of Sisyphus' who (Sisyphus) pushes his rock to the top of the mountain, only to have it roll back time and again. Some people say that hell is heaven.
Dreams and hope are uplifted by the joy brought by such artists as Kate Bush or by just a faceless person on an obscure message board. (this is me 'writing hard' and taking myself very seriously)
