Hello from Austin. I recently re-discovered Kate Bush. I was turned on to her in about 1984 by a friend who had clearly fallen for the lovely Kate. He put on a VHS of several of her videos, early stuff like Wuthering and Babooska. In the time it took to blow a few smoke rings, I too was a fan. The voice, body, face, utter originality, the intrigue, it's easy to fall under her spell. I spend my days making money and my nights twangin a telecaster in various local bands. Other artists who inspire me are Dylan, Elton, Joni, Iris Dement and lots of others, like Texas artist Joe Ely, Guy Clark, Butch Hancock. And oh yeah...The Village People. Peace, Ed

Welcome Ed. (I'm sorry I can't possibly call you knobtwister - I thought that was a gag when I first saw it on the homepage here)
Once again I'm struck by the number of American fans KB seems to have. If you stay around you'll quickly realise that 2 of our regulars here are also from the US.
Twangtastic to see another guitarist here, and a Telecaster player to boot. My Charvel Jackson was made at Fort Worth Texas, but my Strat is Far Eastern..
So you're from Austin, but don't name check Stevie Ray Vaughan? I thought it was the law if you were a Texan!
Hope to see you around..

Thanks, sorry about the generic forum name, I use it on serveral recording forums. I can at least remember it, which is useful. Stevie was very cool. Lots of things changed in this town when that helicopter went down. It seemed to usher out an era. 20 something years ago I got front row seats to him taping Austin City Limits.
There are lots of great guitar players in this town. I lean a little more toward country / americana than pure blues myself.
Many influences, many great artists.....

Stevie was very cool. Lots of things changed in this town when that helicopter went down. It seemed to usher out an era. I'm sure. Is it true (as the story goes here in the UK) that Eric Clapton was actually due to be onboard the helicopter, and that SRV persuaded Clapton to give up the seat in his favour? If so, it seems that a blues giant was destined to die that day..Good luck with your own music and keep playing those bars! Welcome again.

Welcome knobtwister!
I was just in Austin a couple of months ago on business. I enjoyed my visit, especially the weather and the food (I like it HOT!).

Thanks for the warm welcome from all. We have our share of decent weather here, but believe me, six months of 95-105 degree temps does burn me out at times. (love those outdoor summer gigs) This morning it was 29 degrees when I woke up. So we sweat and we freeze and get some good in between stuff occasionally.
I can't remember all the details about SRV crash, except it was foggy and the pilot turned straight into the mountain, never a good flight plan. I seem to remember something about Clapton being involved.
I'm no Kate Bush expert, by any means, so I*'m looking foward to you alls insight. Sometimes her British accent can be hard for a slack-jawed southerner like myself to understand.
I prefer the melodic, beautiful Kate to the more experimental Kate, myself. I got The Red Shoes a few weeks back-it has some very cool moments. I love her background vocal parts, always fresh and a perfect fit. That's hard to do.
All for now, I'll try to check in from time to time. Ed

Welcome O'twister of Knobs. Its great to know Kate has such a reach "Into the heart of Texas"
I play a few chords on the old acoustic and have written a couple of tunes. With Adey, yourself and Altruest on percussion it would be interesting to hear each others expressions.

Sorry, I took it that you Altruest are the beat master and Adey and Knobtwister can pick their way to paradise. Am I wrong? It's an inside joke NEO. Adey has been holding my feet to the fire on syntax and context. I understood what you meant, but it could have been construed that all 3 of us were drummers. ;D
