I've just been listening to this new version and I can't say I'm impressed but Kate often does this to me...I hear something, dislike it, then get it completely and love it! The final 3 mins though are really wonderful. Anyone else hear it? www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5UsjqXXcZ4

I love this - how marvellous. Give me this over the original anytime. I'm guessing that Bertie's voice may well be on there too, underneath the deliberate mangling of the Auto Tune software.
Thanks for the link Amy.

it says in the press release to Director's Cut that Bertie is indeed the singing computer: "A new short film to accompany the track will be premiered in a few weeks. It’s directed by Kate and stars Robbie Coltrane, Frances Barber and Noel Fielding – and Kate’s son Albert plays the role of the computer programme. He is also featured in the song, singing as the computer programme" unrelated btw, I used to post on this forum quite a long time ago and now with the release of Kate's new album i'm back . i'm a bit surprised that this forum is still active, but i'm really happy about that

I've just spent about 40 minutes listening to this song. I really don't like it, I mean really don't like. It is true that with Kate often you have to give it a few hours, days, weeks even before it makes sense, but this one, I just can't find anything to like about it. I can't help but think this is actually bad. I don't know if anyone else is thinking this, but her singing wasn't the emotive force it normally is, and the song seemed to jump around a bit, especially the harmonica part.
I wasn't the biggest fan of the original, but I thought it was good, this seems to have ruined it.
I was really looking forward to a re-working of a few of the tracks from TSW and TRS, as I thought Aerial was a much better album and so that she might be able to improve on the albums' weaker points. However, if this is where her music is going I'm very worried about what she's going to be producing over the next year(s). Hopefully it'll just be first time listening, but I fear it's not. Normally I'm just confused, instead I was unhappy. I wanted to laught at the electronic voice, and I know this song, laughter's not an appropriate response.
I half hope I'm the only one who feels like this, because at least everyone else can enjoy her new(ish) stuff, but I fear I'm probably not the only one.

No problem if some of these re-interpretations divide us. In fact I'm expecting to dislike a few myself. But that's OK. My problem was actually with the original song itself. Actually, the whole Sensual World album. At one time I thought the good material on it would have made an EP.. But over the years, the album and I have reached an accord!

I like the new version a lot.
I also like the press release, which actually confirms that Kate is working on a new album!
Read the last sentence, in particular:
Kate says: “Originally when I wrote the song ‘The Sensual World’ I had used text from the end of ‘Ulysses’ by James Joyce, put to a piece of music I had written. When I asked for permission to use the text I was refused, which was disappointing. I then wrote my own lyrics for the song although I felt that the original idea had been more interesting. Well, I’m not James Joyce am I? When I came to work on this project I thought I would ask for permission again and this time they said yes. It is now re-titled ‘Flower Of the Mountain’ and I am delighted that I have had the chance to fulfill the original concept”.
All the lead vocals and drums on “Director’s Cut” are new performances, some of the tracks featuring guests including Steve Gadd, Danny Thompson and, on backing vocals, Mica Paris. Three songs have been completely re-recorded, one of which is “This Woman’s Work”.
Kate adds: “For some time I have felt that I wanted to revisit tracks from these two albums and that they could benefit from having new life breathed into them. Lots of work had gone into the two original albums and now these songs have another layer of work woven into their fabric. I think of this as a new album”.
Kate Bush is currently working on her new album of brand new material.

Not wishing to make any nuisance of course, but I wonder if Del Palmer is engineering the new release again?

I also really hated the new version itself but now i've grown to really like it (still not love it though), mainly because of the last 2 minutes outro. I still prefer the original version though..

Thanks for adding the latest photos, Matanchik. I was having trouble - completely useless at that kind of thing and dread asking husband to help as he's a total computer geek (and the lecture might never end!)
The scene from the booklet is so exciting but how on earth does it relate to any of the songs? So bizarre. I think I might be ordering that special edition. The slightly open page on the standing booklet shows a photo, it seems, in the same vein - high molded ceilings, panelled walls. I guess maybe their meant to be scenes from a film rather than just random weirdness. It must make sense because ultimately everything Kate does makes sense!
