And if the theme isn't clear to anyone - it's meant to be sort of about art and loss, the desire we have to make sense of life creatively as it goes on around us. In Symphony In Blue, the narrator sees music as a way to put her in touch with the greater truths of existence, in Blow Away it is a comfort in the face of mortality, in Houdini, it's not exactly art but rather the magician's work that is at the centre of the quest to understand the world. In Top Of The City, the narrator looks to transcend the hurt of a broken relationship, and the 'top of the city', to me, means a spiritual plane or a poetic perspective, where she can finally be free of the pain in her life. And in A Coral Room, an incredible loss is come to terms with... I like your playlist, and the abstract sets out the themes very well... 'Moving' is a great opener, and 'Symphony In Blue' connects so well with 'Blow Away' ... Blow to Blow! ... I find it interesting how, in SIB she sees herself on the piano as part of The Great Symphony, whereas in BA she asks, Will all of his licks and his R'n'B blow away? That feeling of meaninglessness sets in again, and she goes blowing her mind on God! ... But where SIB speaks of reincarnation and seems to connect with the universal code, BA speaks of Bolan and Moony heading the show... East meets West? Meanwhile, Harry Houdini is trying to escape that room full of visitors! ... 'Top Of The City' now reminds me of Hyperballad's top of the mountain. TOTC almost suggests a suicide attempt, like she's climbing to the (L)edge... There's just one thing we can do about this... Imagine what my body would sound like Slamming against those rocks...Maybe the 'cry for help' theme is present in both these songs? 'A Coral Room' is a good finishing piece. But you could add 'Sunset'... The most beautiful iridescent blue... Symphony In Blue... Oh sing of summer and a sunset... They go all the way up to the top of the night...

I actually thought about adding Sunset. That's a great idea... the 'song of summer' lyric fits right in, and it would make a lovely ending song. And now that you mention it, Top of The City does remind me of Hyperballad... both of them are a cry for help, I think, but also a cry for transcendence - transcendence of a broken relationship, transcendence of troubling memories, or even transcendence of the body in the narrator's desperation. I'll edit it to put Sunset in.

Rosa, thank you for your playlist. Always good to hear WSILY(demo), and I enjoyed Bjork and Joanna Newsom... I am so glad this board has been revived. Although this is Lori's forum; you may see my thumbprint all around - including here. Lori took so many of my ideas with grace and co-operation. The result has been a unique layout and user friendly design. This section was always one of my favorites. People have come and gone, but I am here for the long haul no matter what. I really hope this group stays around and we grow this place even more.

Thank you for this list. I listened over and over. The selections were so thoughtful. And the lyrics were remarkably apt. I especially like the poetic presentation of verse set to music by Joanna Newsom. You have such a keen ear for expressive lyrical presentations. These really lifted my spirits. ...

I'll try to listen to some of the older ones, too. I really do agree about hoping this group and the people in it decide to stick around for a while. And I'll definitely be here for the long haul as well.

I'm so very glad you listened and enjoyed and understood. It sometimes is unnerving how well the music I love fits into my life, and how especially the lyrics start to intertwine. It can be a source of such inspiration and solace. Joanna Newsom is really talented, isn't she? All of Ys, lyrically and musically, is quite stunning, and just has this true profoundness and complexity that reminds me of Kate and few other truly gifted artists. I'm glad you enjoyed Only Skin and Cosmia, Al.
