The chorus: Sweet dreams...
On this Midsummer night Everyone is sleeping We go driving into the moonlight
Could be in a dream Our clothes are on the beach These prints of our feet Lead right up to the sea No one, no one is here No one, no one is here We stand in the Atlantic We become panoramic
We tire of the city We tire of it all We long for just that something more
Could be in a dream Our clothes are on the beach The prints of our feet Lead right up to the sea No one, no one is here No one, no one is here We stand in the Atlantic We become panoramic
he stars are caught in our hair The stars are on our fingers A veil of diamond dust Just reach up and touch it The sky’s above our heads The sea’s around our legs In milky, silky water We swim further and further
We dive down... We dive down
A diamond night, a diamond sea and a diamond sky...
We dive deeper and deeper we dive deeper and deeper Could be we are here Could be in a dream It came up on the horizon Rising and rising In a sea of honey, a sky of honey A sea of honey, a sky of honey
The chorus: Look at the light, all the time it’s a changing Look at the light, climbing up the aerial Bright, white coming alive jumping off of the aerial All the time it’s a changing, like now... All the time it’s a changing, like then again... All the time it’s a changing And all the dreamers are waking

There is a driving reference in Hello Earth. What does this mean? I always picture Hello Earth at night, but that could just be me. It's the first thing I noticed when I listened.
Kate says she never looks back. Do you thing that she is just repeating the same concepts?

Repeating the same concepts? No, not really Tabatha.
If you're referring to the acknowledged concept pieces - 9th Wave & Sky of Honey, the only similarity is that 'the story' moves across a period of time in both cases. The woman struggling to survive a night in the water until her rescue in the morning and an observation of light and the environment from the afternoon (and a lovely one at that!) through the evening, night and on till the dawn.
9th Wave tells of a series of internal experiences by a central character, whilst Sky of Honey suggests a series of external observations by an undefined character which might even be autobiographical. In one, the character is all important - in the other, it is the observations that are point of the piece..
Were you perhaps talking about other concepts Kate has explored in her work?
Does anyone here think that the 2 concepts ARE related/similar? I'd be interested to hear other views, as would Tabatha I'm sure..

O.K., completely the wrong end of a very knobbly stick. I was the driving thing I was getting at.
And the two are related, I think I read that Kate feels this album to be like and extension of HoL in many ways.
On the concept of the central view of the 9th wave and Sea of Honey. I believe being a mother has changed this way of thinking. In that she can no longer looks at her self, and what is going in her, and herself as the main character in life, as she has the most complete responsibility of Bertie, and mother hood.
I wounder why she never had any more children. She had two brothers, I presume most people with sibling want siblings for their children. And yet it seems so right fro her to only have Bertie.

[purple]On the "Indus Bird Mask" photography accompanying NOCTURN[/purple]The "Indus Bird Mask" photograph shows a standing [purple]heron[/purple]. The Ancient Near East consists of the geographical area from the Indus Valley to the Mediterranean, plus Egypt and Greece. These are the myths of the Sumerians, Babylonians, Canaanites, Egyptians, Hebrews, Persians, Christians, and Greeks. In ancient Greek and Egyptian mythology, the phoenix is a mythical bird and associated with the Egyptian sun-god Re and the Greek Phoibos (Apollo). According to the Greeks the bird lives in Arabia, nearby a cool well. Each morning at dawn, it would bathe in the water and sing such a beautiful song, that the sun-god stops his chariot to listen. In Egypt it was usually depicted as a [purple]heron[/purple], but in the classic literature as a peacock. ["Design by Kate and Peacock" on back of CD booklet? *] The phoenix symbolizes the sun, rebirth, resurrection, immortality, and life after death. In that aspect it was often placed on sarcophagi. The name Phoenix to the Egyptians, as to other pagan nations was a name that symbolized the Sun-god under the names Ra and Osiris. The name Phoenix means "Shining One" (and so does the name "Lucifer"). It is associated with the Egyptian Benu (or Bennu)... To alchemists, the phoenix symbolized the destruction and creation of new forms of matter along the way to the ultimate goal: the philosopher's stone. And the circled photography accompanying AERIAL seems very much to show the immortal and invincible [purple] Phoenix Heron Bird[/purple] arising out of alchemical gold! [* On back of TRS: "Sleeve Design by Peacock Marketing & Design". - thanks www.atforumz.com/archive/index.php/t-280176.html In the 'Book of the Dead' from the New Kingdom the Benu is represented as a grey [purple]heron[/purple] (Ardea cinera), with two long head plumes and a straight beak. Though primarily associated with Atum and Re, the resurrection aspect led to an association with Osiris, and the [purple]heron[/purple] was sometimes depicted wearing the 'atef' crown. In ancient Egyptian, the hieroglyph for 'Benu' means to 'rise in brilliance' or to 'shine'. The standing [purple]heron[/purple] appears in naturalistic or symbolical scenes connected with the sun-god or life after death. Often the sun-disc was shown above its head, pointing at the connection with the myth of the sun-god and its day and night journey. The [purple]heron[/purple] also represented the 'Ba' - the soul of Ra. By the cry of the Benu bird, existence was announced as coming into being. The silence of the primeval night is broken and light and life is brought to creation. There are depictions of the [purple]heron[/purple] perching on a cliff or a little piece of land which is rising above the flooded waters. In this way it became an adequate image of life emerging out of the primeval waters at the first time of creation, just like the sun was said to do, and thus symbolising rebirth. Because of its association with rebirth, the [purple]heron[/purple] also became a manifestation of the resurrected Osiris, Lord of the Dead, and brother/husband of Isis. The goddess Isis, a moon goddess, gave birth to Horus, the god of the sun. Together, Isis and Horus created and sustained all life and were the saviors of their people. Isis is closely connected with the Greek Moon Goddess, Artemis... On this Midsummer night Everyone is sleeping We go driving into the moonlight...Isis was a winged goddess who represented all that was visible, birth, growth, development and vigour. Having wings, she was a wind goddess. The kite was sacred to her, and she could transform herself into this bird at will... The sands run red In lands of the Pharoahs...
Where sands sing in crim-son, red and rust...Inscribed in the temple of Isis: "I, Isis, am all that has been, that is or shall be; No mortal man hath ever me unveiled. The fruit which I have brought forth is the ‘SUN’."Here comes the sunshine Here comes that son of mine...Has KB identified herself with the Moon Goddess in the 'Joanni' photograph? A moony-lamp of Night? Does the 'Bertie' (Albert means 'noble and bright') represent the Apollonian Sun face? Does the red dress on the washing line represent 'baby night'? Is that a storm in the swimming pool? The chorus:Goodnight sun Goodnight son...The sun:Goodnight mum...[/i][/color] ----- [purple] SUN, MOON, COMETS & STARS...[/purple] Paganism has always showed its trinities in art by the sun (with a face) representing the male sun god, the moon (with a face) representing the moon goddess (or queen of heaven) and the all-seeing eye representing their offspring. [purple][TKI album cover? The eye through the indus mask?] *[/purple]"The Sun and Moon," says the learned Brother Delaunay of important Masonic symbols, "represent the two grand principles of all generations, the active and passive, the male and the female. The Sun represents the actual light. He pours upon the Moon his fecundating rays; both shed their light upon their offspring, the Blazing Star, or Horus, the three form the great Equilateral Triangle, in the center of which is the omnific letter of the Kabalah by which creation is said to have been effected." (Morals and Dogma of Free-masonry, by Albert Pike, pp. 13-14.) This doctrine concerning them comes from ANCIENT SUN WORSHIP. The offspring, a blazing star, is of Egyptian origin. Pagans worship the sun, which they call the father of all living; the moon which they call the mother; and all the starry hosts of heaven. They hope to ascend into this heaven by means of a ladder which Masons call "Jacob's Ladder"... Ooh find me the man with the ladder And he might lift me up to the stars...SIC ITUR AD ASTRA ("thus you shall go to the stars"; Aeneid book IX, line 641):Another freemasonry symbol is of a woman sitting with ladder and palmtree, and holding a key to a chest. Oooh and if you see the woman with the key I hear she's opening up the doors to Heaven... ----- [purple] * The "All-Seeing Eye", TKI Album Cover, & The Eye of the Indus Bird Mask[/purple] This "eye" is called the "third eye" of clairvoyance in the Hindu religion, the eye of Osiris, the eye of Horus or the eye of the sun god Ra in Egypt, and the All-Seeing Eye in Freemasonry. Freemasonry employs a mystical eye in its imagery known throughout the occult world as "the all-seeing eye". This symbol which is shared with most false religions, cults and occult bodies today has always been used as a symbol of 'deity'. Occultist Fredrick Goodman explains that, "The eye plays a most important part in occult symbolism and probably owes its origin in western magical designs to the Eye of Horus, which was one of the most frequently used of Egyptian magical symbols". Therefore, the All-Seeing Eye is the symbol of the Omniscience of the Sun God, Lucifer, whom they worship. These All-Seeing Eyes represents the Omniscience of Horus, who is Lucifer in the Egyptian Satanic Mysteries. ----- An Architect's Dream...BTW: T.G.A.O.T.U. = The Great Architect of the Universe (Freemasonry) "The Masonic name for God is T.G.A.O.T.U., 'the Great Architect of the Universe.' The Masonic designation for God is a canopy designation, since, as will be shown, T.G.A.O.T.U. is able to contain in Himself all the various deities of different Masons. If Freemasonry requires of its initiates belief in a Supreme Being, then it is possible for men who believe in either Krishna or Jesus, Brahman or Vishnu, Allah or Jehovah to be Masons." - www.sdmin.org/soundingboard/199706.htm

[purple] SUN, MOON, COMETS & STARS...[/purple] The APOLLONIAN way is the path of the sun: bright and clear and straight. It is the way of most world religions, with particular attention being given by its followers to the details of correct behavior and attention to the small details of life. It is the noble way, the path to the mountaintop. Here we have precepts, liturgies and priestly practitioners guiding communities. The DIONYSIAN way is the path of the moon: intoxicating, crooked and dark. It is the way of the shaman and all those who would steal fire from the gods. It is the way of negation, and forgetting, the path down into the abyss. It is the way of the solitary meditator in the mountains or desert. - www.boundlesswayzen.org/teishos/diamondteisho.html

Duppa: Let the new city arise from its ashes. Let it be called Phoenix...
The Phoenix (a.k.a. "The Bennu").
Known as a popular symbol of Resurrection, the Phoenix is embraced by those who have been purified in the fire of life, scorched to mere ashes, and yet, born anew, they rise to pursue life with a renewed vigor and fresh perspective. They now carry the knowledge in their heart of their true nature, and an appreciation for the finer qualities in life.
In a tome called Morals and Dogma of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, 33rd-degree Mason Albert Pike states that the phoenix was a quintessential alchemical icon. In this regard J.E. Cirlot’s Dictionary of Symbols remarks: "In alchemy, [the phoenix] corresponds to the colour red, to the regeneration of universal life and to the successful completion of a process."

Phoenix, Arizona, was officially recognized on May 4, 1868. Lord Darrell Duppa had suggested the name "Phoenix," as it described a city born from the ruins of a former civilization.Melody Maker, 1985: "Just like the phoenix really. Once every two years she rises out of the ashes to once more bestow a touch of mysticism, a hint of myth, and a copious supply of inspired vision upon the burned-out landscape we call the charts."gaffa.org/reaching/i85_mm1.htmlKate sent demo tapes out to a number of record companies when she was looking for a place to sign on. Someone who worked at one of these record companies took the tapes with him/her when they changed jobs. At some point the tapes were aired on a radio station in Phoenix. These have come to be known as THE PHOENIX BROADCAST.THE PHOENIX BROADCAST 1982/1987:The Phoenix broadcast titles seem to be the nearest to the original because DJ John Dixon read them directly from the original [!] tape! "So, I think, what we have here, appears to be the track-listing of Kate's original demo tape. They appear to be legitimate, though none of us can be certain of course. It is also interesting to mention that 'Organic Acid' (5'45) is missing. When you calculate the duration of the whole thing, you come to something like 60'54 minutes. This indicates a C60 tape. So, maybe Organic Acid comes from another tape?" gaffa.org/phoenix/index.htmlThe song titles as they appeared on the Phoenix tape: PHOENIX: EARLY KATE BUSH, THE HISTORY OF THE DEMOS (Updated: Sun, 7 July, 1996).gaffa.org/phoenix/index.html#titlesGiven the connection between Kate's original demo tape and Phoenix, Arizona, it is especially fascinating that the Phoenix Heron Bird (a.k.a. "The Bennu") (re)appears in the Nocturn/Aerial photography... Strange Phenomena... From Wikipedia:The Phoenix Recordings are a set of unofficial recordings by Kate Bush, made in 1976. In 1982, the recording was played on Phoenix, Arizona radio station KSTM by John Dixon, a former EMI employee. Dixon read the song titles from the tape box. The recordings later appeared as a set of 45 RPM singles with two songs per release. One additional song, "Organic Acid" featuring a poem read by her older brother John Carder Bush, was released on vinyl but was not aired. A 29 track compilation was released in 1993 as Cathy's Home Demos on Blue Moon Records.

That is so inspired! ... I wonder if Kate has been to Phoenix, Arizona? Apparently, she may have been to the Wilhelm Reich Museum, Maine:Date: Fri, 10 Jul 87 Subject: Orgonon trip Well, I did it. I finally made it up to Orgonon. I took pictures of cloudbusters and Wilhelm Reichs big fieldstone home/laboratory. I even sat in an Orgonon accumulator. I showed the Cloudbusting video to my tour guide on the museums video system. He wants a copy. Said he'd like to try and work it into the tour somehow. He also said that Kate had been there to visit, or so he'd been told... gaffa.org/dreaming/hol_clb.htmlOUT OF THIS WORLDAnd to tap into Neo's thread: Reich reported observing UFOs over Orgonon, Maine and also in the Arizona skies during his drought-relief expedition into the American Southwest. Reich even claimed to have done battle with the UFOs, convinced that his “cloudbuster” could be deployed to extinguish the anomalous “stars” from the sky. (wiki)

Yes, Paul, Nocturn is a-roving late into the night! ... We go driving Rising and rising A veil of diamond dust The sky’s above our heads The sea’s around our legs In milky, silky water We swim further and further The stars are caught in our hair The stars are on our fingers We dive down we dive deeper and deeper Bright, white coming alive jumping off of the aerial...Obelisks are ancient aerials. The obelisk's phallic form was representative of sexual reproduction, which the ancient Egyptians realized was also a source of life. Obelisks soared up towards the sky with their shafts decorated in hieroglyphs, and were crowned by a reflective, shining, gold-plated, pyramidal point, the pyramidon. The obelisk was a symbol of contact between the earth and the heavens, between man and the gods. The obelisk symbolized the sun god Ra, and during the brief religious reformation of Akhenaten was said to be a petrified ray of the Aten, the sundisk. The pyramid and Obelisk were connected with sunrise and sunset, with zodiacal light and Sun pillars, respectively. The ancient Egyptians believed that the obelisk was a mediator of the power of life that reached to the dead, channeling the sun's rays to the deceased, and assisting them in their resurrection. Maybe Nocturn celebrates Sex Magick...Sex magick is the use of the sex act—or the energies, passions or arousal states it evokes—as a point upon which to focus the will or magical desire for effects in the non-sexual world. The fundamental premise of sex magic is that the sexual energy (libido) of the human organism is the most potent force it contains. Harnessing the unique states that arise through sexual activity provides a special conduit for the transcendence of nominal reality. Aleister Crowley was one of the first people in modern times to publicly advocate the practice of sexual magick. An example of sex magick is the Great Rite of Wicca, a ritual that involves either symbolic or actual sexual intercourse. This union between the High Priestess and the High Priest represents the union between the Maiden Goddess and the Lover God. Tripping on the water: Jig Of Life and Nocturn
Narration: "Can't you see where memories are kept bright, Tripping on the water like a laughing girl? Time in her eyes is spawning past life Run on the ocean and the woman unfurls Holding ALL THE LOVE that waits for you here Catch us now for I am your future A kiss on the wind and we'll make the land Come over here to where When lingers Waiting in this empty world Waiting for Then, when the life spray cools For Now does ride in on the curl of the wave And you will dance with me in the sunlit pools We are of the going water and the gone We are of water and the holy land of water And all that's to come runs in With the thrust on the strand"
The chorus: "Look at the light, and all the time it’s a changing Look at the light, climbing up the aerial Bright, white coming alive jumping off of the aerial All the time it’s a changing, like Now... All the time it’s a changing, like Then again... All the time it’s a changing And all the dreamers are waking"
