You may of all seen the paintings of Kate from Blackholes & Butterflies, but I've decided to try posting them up one at a time to have a discussion about each. You may all hate ir or love it but I thought we'd give it a whirl anyway. They're how the artist, Herb Leonhard, interprets some of Kate's songs. Some of these may be quite disturbing, but in my opinion, I find them very intriguing.
Who's giving me the green flag?

I was thinking of posting the paintings up first and then I'll provide a link. I was actually hoping many people hadn't seen them to get first impressions.

OK... so I just googled them. I've got mixed feelings with these pictures. Some are original most of them however are based on either the covers of the albums or the video clips. If you don't expect problems with the painter about putting them on display I'd say do it.

I've been e-mailing the artist for years and he's gave me permission.
Ok let's just go for it and if people hate it I'll just delete this board.

This first image is a fine one, which has much for us to discuss. Please display others of this quality..
(Nice to know you have the support of the artist.)

OMG This is revealing! Seeing Kate still, with the butterflies MOVING, works for me. She is still, without the herky jerky thing going on which is very artificial and soul-less. I must check out the YES connection... Scott.

I must check out the YES connection... Scott. I have requested the butterfly image, only he doesn't think he still has the image without the text on which is what we would need. I've also think it would be nice to invite him along to this thread, as it might be nice for him to hear everyones views on his painting?

Invite invite!! His GENESIS paintings are really cool, and one can tell that he really loves THE LAMB! Oh MG, so did I! Are you in the country or the city? The north or the south? I lived in Forest Row(East Sussex) for two years(studying HORT) right at the edge of the Ashedowne Forest(Winnee the Pooh?), and very close to Kent...(my gal pal rented a small manor house and after diving into her lucious cement pond(inground swimming pool) she proceeded to tell me of the Brian Jones Affair...I got out of the pool.) Freaky moment. I was luckily hanging out with out of control Kate Freaks. Musically on the time line, I think it was around the same time that Britian was in the throws of "come on Eileen" which began to get on my nerves, but I think it had more to do with whats his names supenders(which he should not have been in) and his very nappy hair-ew! But that was the 80''s...everyone either looked like an astronout or a homeless Madonna! I really should be out in the garden. Cheerio!

Come on Eileen not a bad tune after all this time It moves (It has a very good rhythm) Good production-stong vocals and it stands the test of time.
I needed to add that- there is nothing like a really good pop song.

An arresting series of images, superbly painted/drawn and so faithfull to the tale that we have all come to know so well. I'm delighted by the little details he has picked up from the songs and transferred to canvas.
I'm the last person qualified to talk about fine art, but I felt obliged to make a comment about each illustration.
Do you know if this set is available in a print form Lori?

Do you know if this set is available in a print form Lori? I believe so. If I could get him to visit us, then he'll be more qualified to answer questions

Hi Everyone, Herb here. Just wanted to say how flattered I am that you would want to objectively discuss my work. I will try to pop in from time to time if there are any specific questions that you would like me to address. About the one regarding the prints, yes they are available through the website in two sizes, more specific info about that can be found here: www.herbleonhard.com/Ordering/Ordering2.htmlAll the best to everybody! - Herb -
