Beautiful song, and one of the best of the very early demos, I think. The lyrics are interesting, as well... In that ocean. Wide eyed and deeper in your gaze, And bluer than the bright that's in the cave.
There is a city, Came out from you, Atlantis In ruins, sunken below the waves
But in the city, Where there is no one. What's the point of being free, eh? When there is nothing there to tie me down, Oh, no more here.
The bluest city, Covered in coral and coral, On sea chests, And sealed Jamaician tales.
There is nobody To count the soldiering meandering whales, With a shoal of herring amongst the sails.
But in the city, Where there is no one. What's the point of being free, eh? When there is nothing there to tie me down, Oh, no more here.
There is the city Atlantis. These seem pretty accurate... Except the "Oh, no more here." actually sounds like "Oh no, Molly." or "Oh no, morning." or "Oh no, mourning." to me.

Thank you Rosa for posting the KB links... I especially liked Kate Bush: Lord Of The Reedy River!on the demos:Someone, somehow has got hold of one of Kate's early (circa 1973) demo tapes, which appears to have contained not only a number of Kate's early songs, but embryonic versions of more well-known tracks. A West German company appeared to believe that it had bought the 'rights' to this tape and was set to issue an album entitled: "Kate Bush: The Early Years". EMI-Electrola in Germany were aware of this, but some reason took no action to prevent the release. The album was in fact pressed and white labels send out in an attempt to secure overseas distribution deals. At this point Kate became aware of the proposed release, and feeling that her early mistakes are not fit for public consumption, took the appropriate legal action. The stockpiled albums will now be destroyed (sorry, we don't know how to get hold of one!). gaffa.org/phoenix/index.html

Thank you Rosa for posting the KB links... I especially liked Kate Bush: Lord Of The Reedy River! Isn't it a lovely song? She sings it beautifully, and though she didn't write the lyrics, I think they're also quite superb.

Delius: Violin Sonata in B 2nd movementwww.youtube.com/watch?v=r7t-vMNI3tMI don't know much about Delius, but I was listening to Kate's wonderful tribute to him yesterday, and thinking I should hear some of his music for myself, if she found it so inspiring. And I thought this was a beautiful piece. Bjork: Oceania (Piano and Vocal version)www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0qNyKA0CTESorry for redundancy, but this is really cool! Fabulous song, and it almost reminds me of the way the ocean is described in Nocturn and TNW... Kate Bush: Ne T'enfuis Paswww.youtube.com/watch?v=LDBjqQ4X0KYAnother lovely b-side, which I hadn't paid much attention to until now. I love the percussion sounds, and the lyrics, which I only recently looked up, are fascinating. I'm still thinking about what they really might mean... I am coming like a cat through the night so black, You are waiting and I fall into your white wings, la la la, And I sink and I fly like a feather
If the big eyes of my God were not watching me I would steal you away
Don't fly away - You have wings, the power to leave me You fell from the sky like an angel, la la la, And I am afraid that the sky will take you back
If the big eyes of my God were not watching me I would steal you away
I am coming like a cat through the night so black, I beg you I beg you Don't fly away

Suzanne Vega - Cracking www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBjqtAjSYzYSuzanne Vega - Book and a Cover www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVIGOlyEGZw&Suzanne is the only arist who, in my opinion, rivals Kate. She sings very emotional songs, some about love and others about social issues (a singer with a social conscience - wow.) She has a brilliant voice, a balance between the low and grating and the high and beautiful. My mum and dad were the original Suzanne fans in my family. I remember, back when I was a tiny little 8-year old and Mum was at Uni, she was seeking a Suzanne Vega song for something she had to do. And my love of her music began...'The sun Is blinding Dizzy golden, dancing green Through the park in the afternoon Wondering where the hell I have been Ah...'
