what artists\entertainers do you think are overrated -outkast -gwen stefany -kelis -norah jones -justin timberlake While I may agree with a few (actually most) of these, I'd rather resist. For what ever reason I don't like them does not qualify me to label them as over-rated. I will say that Norah Jones and Outkast, although I don't listen to them, have my respect as talented artists. That being said, and in light of unwanted criticism of Kate Bush here recently, I prefer not to comment on what I don't like - but rather on what I do. I of course mean no disrespect to the intent of this thread.

Norah Jones, daughter of Ravi Shankar, has a solid musical background. With her multi-cultural influences being fused into her own style, I think she has earned her awards.
Sometimes, as with a few of the other artist's you mention, there is style over substance. But what floats someone else's boat may just be to admire visually the presentation or merely dance to the tunes.. Not everyone is willing to dig deeply into the lyrics or musicianship of the artist.

I agree that her background is impecable. My wife has an album of hers which I find pleasant rather than profound in anyway.
Timberlake - nice suit. I think his Sister is the greater talent and she's never going to set the world on fire..
Outkast - some obvious talent but it's not for me.
Stefany - has great potential. Her next year or so will tell the tale.
Kelis - I know nothing..
I'm sure they're all desperate to know my opinions!!

actually norah jones is quite nice, if you try to sleep!!
i think she's overrated because she's not doing anything interesting yet the critics really hype about and she certainly not deserve the best album of the year award
i never heard of timberlake's sister Adey is she good?

i think she's overrated because she's not doing anything interesting In fairness Mat, she has the interest of quite a few folks. Not you or I, but fans nevertheless. Maybe so. But record sales and critical claim equal awards. Mainstream artist's usually win awards playing music that is uninteresting or unoriginal, yet identifiable to the masses.

oh, even though I won't deny owning Eminem's albums, I do think he is overrated.

The Beatles (I thought they were overrated) The White Stripes Those are my main ones... Can't agree here. How can you deny the cultural impact of the Beatles - nevermind the music. Also The White Stripes are maybe under rated in my opinion. Jack White is an accomplished guitarist with impeccable timing and muscianship.

I can't believe Elton John had his back on the gay-bashing issue. Yes, that was quite unfathomable wasn't it?
